Wife Swap on Our Fifth Anniversary

On our fifth wedding anniversary, my husband proposed playing Truth or Dare with friends.

Ethan lost the first round.

The punishment he drew was a wife-swapping game.

And the name on his card was his recently returned childhood sweetheart, Lily Watson.

I was about to refuse such an outrageous game.

But then I saw my husband exchange glances with his friends.

While Lily quietly blushed.

In an instant, my blood ran cold.

This game was their long-planned scheme.

Ethan wrapped his arm around my shoulders.

"Babe, it's just a game. Lily and I will only be husband and wife for one week. After it's over, you're still the one I love most."

I smiled and nodded.

Then handed him divorce papers.

"Sure, if we're playing games, let's play properly."

The room fell silent for a few seconds.

Then erupted with screams and jeers that could lift the roof.

Ethan's friends gave me thumbs up.

"Sister-in-law, you've become so much more magnanimous. Back when Ethan and Lily just kissed, you'd throw a fit. You're much more likeable now."

"What do you know? This is the grace of a true wife!"

"Tch, these past few years, she's lost to Lily every year. I think she knows she can't compete, so she's giving up."

Ethan glared at the speaker.

He gently took my hand.

"Playing for real, babe?"

"Are you angry? Don't listen to him. He doesn't know when to shut up."

I subtly withdrew my hand.

My smile never wavered.

"It's fine. It's just a game. I understand. The divorce papers are just a prop to make you all happier."

Actually, Ethan's friends were right.

All these years, since Ethan and I started dating, Lily had been like a thorn stuck between us.

Every time I faced off against her, I was the one who lost miserably.

In a trance, I recalled so many memories.

The one I remembered most clearly was six months ago.

I had acute appendicitis. Ethan was terrified and drove me to the hospital.

But halfway there, we ran into Lily dealing with a breakup.

He immediately got out of the car to comfort her.

Completely forgetting there was a me in the car, suffering unbearably.

I was in agony, desperately calling for help.

But Ethan found me an inconvenience to his comforting of Lily.

He closed the car window, locking me inside.

"Just be good and wait. Once Lily feels better, I'll take you to the hospital. Appendicitis isn't that serious."

It was the height of summer. Without air conditioning, the pain and burning heat nearly killed me.

In the end, I called the ambulance myself.

Afterward, Ethan knelt by my hospital bed all night, was tender and attentive post-surgery.

Only then did I barely forgive him.

But that incident wasn't the end. It was the beginning of countless acts of favoritism.

This triangle game had been going on for over a decade. I was tired. I didn't want to play anymore.

Lily held her wine glass.

Her curves pressed tightly against Ethan's arm.

"Thank you for this blessing. When we played house as kids, they always paired Ethan and me together. Now we're finally making that dream come true."

Ethan's friends teased playfully.

"Why thank her? You're Ethan's wife now!"

Lily smiled and held the glass before me.

"Ex-wife, drink this. For the next week, Ethan belongs to me."

I'm allergic to alcohol.

"Sorry, I can't drink."

Lily pouted at Ethan.

Unable to refuse her, Ethan showed an indulgent smile.

He shoved the glass into my hand without asking.

"Just drink it. My wife gave me a task. If I can't complete it, this little troublemaker will punish me."

He knew I was allergic.

But still chose to please Lily, to make her happy.

I suppressed the bitterness.

I raised the glass and downed it in one gulp.

Consider it a final end to our past feelings.

After drinking, I handed Ethan the divorce papers again.

"Sign it. I gave you face, now you give me face."

Ethan casually picked up a pen and signed his name.

Then threw the divorce papers in the trash.
