Meanwhile, Ethan was vacationing with Lily on an island.

But he felt inexplicably restless.

This was supposed to be the alone time with Lily he'd longed for.

Yet his mind was full of Chelsea lying in the road that day, covered in blood.

"Was I too harsh..."

He hung his head, murmuring softly.

Lily sat beside him with a beaming smile.

"What are you thinking about? That old woman finally stopped bothering us. Come play with me."

Usually, she called Chelsea that too.

But now, hearing it felt strangely grating.

"Chelsea is my wife. Watch your mouth. After this time's up, let's stop contacting each other. I want to live properly with Chelsea."

Lily's eyes flashed with scorn.

She thought Ethan was so stupid.

Chelsea had been hurt so badly by them—how could she possibly change her mind?

Only Ethan thought Chelsea would come back.

She wouldn't remind him.

"Okay, I misspoke. Don't be mad. These few days you're my husband. Come play with me."

Lily suggestively sat on Ethan's lap.

Before, Ethan would have found it thrilling and couldn't wait to mess around with her.

But now he felt nothing.

He even found her perfume too pungent.

Not as pleasant as Chelsea's natural light fragrance.

"I'm not in the mood. Go play by yourself."

This was the first time he'd refused Lily.

Her expression soured.

But Ethan's mind wasn't on her at all.

Instead, he stood and returned to his room.

Pulled out his phone.

Called his assistant.

"How's my wife? She's not making a fuss, is she? Tell her in two more days, I'll come see her."

As he spoke, a smile appeared on Ethan's face.

Months ago, he'd prepared a surprise to give Chelsea, to spend a lifetime with her properly.

But his friends told him to go wild one last time.

Otherwise, he'd be trapped in marriage forever.

Lily had also fanned the flames.

Finally, he wavered.

Just this one last time, then he'd hold a brand new diamond ring and love Chelsea for life.

Thinking about seeing Chelsea in two days, his mood suddenly improved.

But the assistant's words made his expression change dramatically.

"Sir, I've been trying to reach you these past days, but your phone was unreachable. Mrs. Shaw never went to the hospital. The doctor and nurse you arranged said they never saw her."

"We've searched everywhere and can't find her."

Ethan felt the world spinning.

She'd been so seriously injured then, her legs completely unable to walk.

Not going to the hospital—where could she go?

Those grief-mixed-with-despair eyes appeared in his mind again.

"I'm going home immediately."
