"Alright, alright, I went through the motions with you. Now be good and wait for me."

"In this world, only your husband loves you."

The allergic reaction gradually manifested.

My throat became dry and itchy. The exposed skin began breaking out in dense red welts.

But none of it compared to my heartache.

Both my parents were dead. I grew up in an orphanage. All I ever wanted was a home of my own.

Ethan knew this.

So he assumed I was bluffing with the divorce papers, certain I wouldn't leave him.

I didn't bother explaining.

Ethan looked at me with some concern.

"Let me take you to the hospital."

Before I could refuse, Lily glared at me unhappily.

"I'm your wife now. I haven't said anything yet. Why are you making decisions on your own?"

"Ethan, let's go home right now. I have a surprise for you later."

In the dim lighting, I saw Ethan's Adam's apple bobbing.

He changed his mind without hesitation.

"Sorry, my wife..."

I didn't need to think to know what Lily's "surprise" was.

After all, even before this wife-swapping game began, she'd already been giving Ethan plenty of benefits right in front of me.

Kissing, hugging, wearing revealing clothes and deliberately rubbing against Ethan.

If I showed any displeasure, countless people would accuse me of being catty and competitive.

"I'll call an ambulance myself later."

With that, Ethan swept Lily into his arms and strode out of the private room.

His friends followed with laughter and jeers, shouting about crashing the wedding night.

After they left, I retrieved the divorce papers from the trash.

After taking allergy medication, I went to City Hall and used the express lane.

Finalized the divorce.

Certificate in hand, I wandered the streets in a daze, not knowing where to go.

When Ethan proposed to me, he said wherever he was would be my home.

But now we were divorced.

My only family was gone too.

I found a random hotel and tossed and turned in bed until late at night before falling asleep.

In a hazy state, I was woken by Ethan's call.

"Buddy bit Lily. Get over here now."

His voice was filled with suppressed fury.

My heart tightened.

Buddy was a puppy we'd found together. We'd always treated him like our child.

He was sweet and obedient, would never bite without reason.

I hurriedly took a cab to what used to be our home.

The moment I stepped through the door, a resounding slap landed on my face.

Lily's eyes were red from crying.

She glared at me furiously.

"Bitch, did you deliberately make the dog bite me?"

I slapped her back.

"Maybe the dog couldn't stand your slutty smell."

Lily didn't expect me to fight back.

She froze for a moment, then threw herself sobbing into Ethan's arms.

"You actually hit Lily? Your dog was in the wrong first!"

Seeing the red mark on her face, Ethan glared at me furiously, tenderly caressing her cheek.

Buddy, beaten nearly to death, slowly walked to my side.

He kept circling around my legs.

My eyes stung with tears.

I crouched down to hold him, looking up at Ethan.

"Since you don't like Buddy, I'll take him with me."

"And my luggage—it'll be an eyesore to you both. I'll take that too."
