After My Heart Died, I Became My Ex-Husband's Obsession Chapter 4
The massive living room instantly became terrifyingly quiet.
Cole thought he heard wrong.
"Nina, what did you say?"
"I said okay. Let's get a divorce."
I stood up from the sofa to get the papers my lawyer had already drafted.
Suddenly, Cole raised his voice, gritting his teeth.
"Are you sure you want to divorce me?"
I blinked, confused.
"Why would I joke about that?"
Cole stared at me deeply, then let out a scornful laugh.
"Wow, you've learned some new tricks. Playing hard to get? Well, I'm not buying it."
He stormed out of the house.
For the next two weeks, he didn't come home.
Late one night, I got a call from Ryan.
He sounded panicked, saying Cole was blackout drunk and needed someone to take care of him.
I said, "Let him sleep at your place. or ask Chloe if she's free."
I was genuinely trying to be helpful.
But Cole, who was supposed to be blackout drunk, came home immediately and gave me the cold shoulder.
He sat next to me on the couch watching TV with a stone-cold face.
He came home on time every single day, radiating anger.
He also sent three dozen roses to my office for a week straight.
In the past, if he gave me a single flower, I would post it all over Instagram.
But this time, he refreshed my feed a thousand times and saw nothing.
Cole seemed to have forgotten about the divorce.
I followed my lawyer's advice: wait for the right moment.
"Nina, where are you? We're in Booth 8. Come quickly."
I was meeting Olivia at a high-end lounge.
Before I could find the booth, someone grabbed my shoulder from behind.
"Nina, how did you know I was here?"
Cole’s face couldn't hide his surprise.
"I told you I'd be home soon. But since you're here, come meet everyone."
He dragged me into his booth.
Chloe was the first to greet us.
When she saw me, her smile froze.
"Wow, I didn't expect Nina to come to a place like this."
She glanced at Cole coyly, then looked me up and down with contempt.
"Cole always says you're boring. I told him, Nina isn't just some dull housewife."
I immediately recognized the jacket draped over her shoulders.
It was the anniversary gift I had given Cole last year.
A while ago, I asked him to wear it to a family dinner.
He told me impatiently that he had lost it on a business trip.
When I whispered that it was a pity, he yelled at me.
"It was just an ugly, out-of-season jacket! You keep asking about it like you're interrogating a criminal! Nina, you really need to see a shrink!"
Cole pulled me down to chat with his friends.
They teased him about being "whipped," and he looked at me with smiling eyes.
When everyone started chanting for Cole and me to dance, Chloe interrupted.
She adjusted the jacket on her shoulders and spoke in a sickly sweet voice.
"Nina is wearing so little. Don't catch a cold, okay?"
Seeing me staring at the "lost" jacket, Cole grabbed my arm nervously.
He explained carefully.
"The weather dropped suddenly in the city I visited. Chloe didn't bring a coat... I only lent it to her."
I was busy replying to Olivia’s text and didn't even look up.
"It's just a jacket. Don't say you lent it. You can give it to her."
Just then, Olivia sent me a photo of a mystery guest's profile.
I immediately pulled my hand out of Cole’s grip.
"You guys have fun. I have something to do. I'm leaving."
Before Cole could speak, Chloe blocked my path, looking like she was about to cry.
"Nina, are you still misunderstanding me and Cole? We really aren't what you think."
Just as she planned, I saw the tattoo on her inner arm.
It was a unique nebula design.
Two months ago, I had seen the exact same tattoo on Cole’s ribs.
Meeting Cole’s panicked eyes, I did something that shocked everyone.
