After My Heart Died, I Became My Ex-Husband's Obsession Chapter 5
In front of everyone, I grabbed his hand and Chloe’s hand.
I stacked them on top of each other.
Like an officiant at a wedding, I smiled politely.
My tone was forgiving.
"True love is innocent. The one who isn't loved is the third wheel. Don't worry, I genuinely wish you both the best. Pick a date soon; we’re all waiting to celebrate."
After saying that, I walked out of the booth easily.
Cole chased after me regardless of the scene he was causing.
His face had never been so pale.
"Nina, I can explain! Please listen to me!"
I looked at him, baffled.
"You and Chloe are great together. Why do you need to explain anything to me?"
"I am not with her! I know the tattoo made you misunderstand. But I lost a bet with Ryan, that's the only reason I got it! It means nothing! I'll get it removed tomorrow! Nina, we've been together for so many years, can't you trust me just once?"
His shouting was attracting attention from passersby.
A flicker of disgust crossed my eyes.
"Cole, don't be so emotional. Whatever it is, we can talk after I finish with my friends."
Years ago, at the hospital entrance, I had grabbed him and demanded to know his relationship with Chloe.
He had brushed me off with the exact same attitude.
Now the tables had turned.
For the first time, I saw shock and hurt in his eyes.
I ignored his devastated look and didn't look back as I pushed open the door to Booth 8.
For the next few hours, my phone screen lit up and went dark repeatedly.
Cole sent dozens of texts.
From asking when I’d be done, to telling me not to drink, to saying he bought allergy medicine and was waiting for me.
Eventually, he just called.
As soon as I picked up, he asked gently, "Nina, are you done? I'm coming to get you now."
"I'm already in my friend's car."
He thought I was joking.
So I put the phone on speaker and let my college friend, Julian, say hello to him.
Cole had never met Julian, but he knew we were close in university.
Even over the phone, I could hear his breathing getting heavy.
He was on the verge of exploding.
To avoid a pointless argument, I just hung up.
That night, I didn't go home. I stayed at Olivia’s place for a long-overdue girls' night.
The next day around noon, I finally charged my phone.
I saw dozens of missed calls, all from Cole.
He called again.
"Nina, where are you right now?"
His voice was hoarser than I had ever heard it.
I closed my eyes briefly and spoke coldly.
"It's Friday. I'm at the office, obviously."
