After My Heart Died, I Became My Ex-Husband's Obsession Chapter 6

3 min 1 views

Cole was silent for a moment before admitting he had been waiting downstairs at my office all morning.

His lie was exposed.

But I didn't flush or stutter. I turned it around on him.

"Cole, do you have that much free time? Stop micromanaging me. I'm an adult; I don't need to report everything to you."

He quickly explained.

"That's not what I meant. I just wanted to pick you up... Nina, you're at Olivia’s, right? I'm coming to get you now."

My office was very close to Olivia’s place. Since I was going home anyway, I didn't refuse.

When the car arrived, he personally got out to open the passenger door for me.

Shortly after getting in, I felt something under my foot.

It was a pair of red-bottom high heels.

Cole reacted like he was facing a bomb.

He immediately grabbed the shoes and threw them into the back seat, his eyes darting nervously.

"Chloe got drunk last night and threw up everywhere. I didn't notice she left her shoes in the car. Nina, please don't..."

I interrupted him.

"Cole, I really don't care."

"...What?"

"I don't care about anything happening in your life, so you really don't need to waste your breath explaining."

He stared unblinkingly at the side of my face as I closed my eyes to rest.

He knew I wasn't lying.

When we got home, I showered and came out.

Cole, who never cooked, had prepared two bowls of tomato pasta that looked terrible.

He was looking at me eagerly, waiting for me to sit across from him.

In the past, the highlight of my day was him coming home on time for dinner.

But in all our years of marriage, he never had a single nice thing to say about my cooking.

Too salty, too greasy, tastes like garbage... that was his daily review.

Once, he brought his team home to work late. Everyone praised my midnight snacks.

But he looked disgusted.

He pushed the heart-shaped eggs I had specially fried for him onto the floor and let Chloe’s dog eat them.

After his colleagues left awkwardly, he told me coldly:

"Don't bring that embarrassing trash out in front of people."

"Nina, I asked your mom for your favorite pasta recipe," Cole said with hope in his eyes. "It's my first time, it might not be perfect. Try it? If it's bad, I'll make it again."

"What did you say this is?"

"Pasta, Nina."

I said "Oh."

Then I dumped the bowl of boiling hot noodles right into his lap.

I scoffed.

"If you hadn't told me, I would have thought the neighbor's dog used the bowl as a toilet."

His stomach turned red from the heat.

But he didn't move.

His face went pale, and he just stared at me blankly.

I didn't say another word. I turned and went into the study to work.

A while later, after cleaning up the mess, he knocked on the door.

Just as he was about to speak, his phone rang.
