Cole’s eyes instantly turned red.

He stared at me, his lip trembling.

"Nina, I am your husband! You hit me for an outsider?"

My gaze was steady.

"Chloe wasn't wrong earlier. I do admire Julian. So, I won't let you touch him."

Hearing this, Cole’s reaction was more extreme than anyone expected.

"You're lying! I know your schedule every day. You're just saying this to hurt me! Nina, how long are you going to punish me? I..."

When he saw Julian and me interlock our fingers, his voice died in his throat.

He couldn't understand.

I used to love him so much. I did so many stupid things for him.

How could I be so intimate with another man right in front of him?

Chloe’s eyes flashed with glee.

She mimicked me and tried to link arms with Cole, about to speak.

But Cole shoved her violently to the ground.

He ignored Chloe’s crying.

He stood there like a puppet, staring at me with dead eyes.

After a long time, he finally spoke.

"Nina, I finally understand how you used to feel. I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you. Let's go home, okay?"

Hearing this, I laughed like I had heard the world's biggest joke.

"Cole, if I don't see the signed divorce papers in my inbox tomorrow, my lawyer will file a lawsuit immediately."

I took Julian’s hand and walked back into the cafe with Olivia.

I dared to hold Julian’s hand because he had actually confessed his feelings to me a few days ago.

Although I hadn't accepted yet, dragging him into this mess made me feel guilty. I used tea to toast him as an apology.

Julian rubbed his nose shyly, accepted my apology, and invited me to an art exhibit next weekend.

As for when Cole and the humiliated Chloe left, nobody cared.

The next day, I didn't receive the documents. So, I told my lawyer to sue.

Two weeks later, during the rainy season, I went back to my parents' home in the Midwest for our annual family gathering.

The next day, Cole’s car was parked on the dirt road in front of our house.

I gave my family an ultimatum.

If anyone—including my parents—let him participate in any family activity as my husband, I would cut ties with them immediately.

So for three whole days, Cole stood in the rain during the day and slept in his car at night.

Everyone ignored him.

Until a neighbor found him passed out on the road to the only grocery store in town.

He had a high fever all night.

Even after he took medicine, my parents checked on him every thirty minutes.

My family and Cole’s family were from different worlds.

If we hadn't been madly in love back then, his snobbish parents never would have agreed to the marriage.
