It was Chloe, sobbing on the other end.

After hanging up, Cole told me Chloe’s claustrophobia had triggered.

She was trapped in the company elevator and needed him—the only one with a master key card—to get her out.

"Nina, Chloe is my employee after all. We'll go handle this together, and then I'll take you to that Michelin-star restaurant you've always wanted to try, okay?"

"Honey... please don't be mad at me anymore. Stop misunderstanding me."

I held back my irritation.

I stood up before he could touch me and forced the corners of my mouth up.

I agreed, but said I needed to put on makeup and change clothes first.

Cole let out a huge sigh of relief. He was beaming before he left.

"I'll handle it and come back to pick you up immediately!"

To save Chloe, he ran down the fire escape like his life depended on it.

The moment he left, I called my lawyer.

I confirmed that the division of assets was finalized.

Then, I packed Cole’s suitcase for the very last time.

I left the suitcase at the front door and deleted his fingerprint from the smart lock.

Feeling a massive weight lift off my shoulders, I emailed the signed divorce papers to Cole.

That night, I ignored his frantic pounding on the door.

I told the apartment security not to let him in, put in my earplugs, and slept peacefully.

As I predicted, the arrogant Cole stood outside for half the night, then disappeared.

However, his Instagram, which had blocked me for a long time, suddenly became very active.

After leaving me, he lived even more recklessly.

And I, for the next month, experienced a happiness I hadn't felt in years.

I didn't have to cook three meals a day for anyone.

I didn't have to wait like a statue for his texts or calls.

I didn't have to cry or lose sleep for anyone.

I poured all my time into my work and enjoying my life.

On the afternoon I was promoted to department head, I met Olivia and Julian at a new coffee shop.

I never expected to run into Cole and Chloe there.

The moment Cole saw me, he looked like he had been searching for me for a century.

He walked over with a cold face, grabbed my wrist forcefully, and tried to drag me toward his car.

Thankfully, Julian and Olivia intervened. After a struggle, I broke free.

I looked at him coldly.

"What do you think you're doing?"

Before he could answer, Chloe pointed a finger at my face, loud enough for passersby to hear.

"Nina, I've never seen such a shameless woman! You haven't even finalized the divorce with Cole, and you're openly dating another man!"

Before she finished speaking, Cole threw a punch at Julian.

"Bastard! Who said you could touch my wife?!"

Julian took the punch but stood his ground in front of me, staring Cole down.

Seeing my friend get hit, I snapped.

I walked up to Cole and slapped him across the face as hard as I could.
