Derek's POV

The pain in my chest was sharp, blood flowing from where the dart had penetrated. It had missed my heart by mere centimeters—if she'd aimed just a bit more accurately, I might be dead now.

But what truly shocked me wasn't the wound but Erin's eyes. Pure, undisguised hatred. Her eyes had flashed amber, and her voice had been as cold as steel.

After she left, I looked down at the drops of blood on the floor, motionless for several seconds. Then, a piercing howl erupted from deep in my throat, shaking the entire gym. My eyes turned gold, my expression twisting into a mask of fury.

Security personnel rushed into the gym, their faces filling with fear at the sight of me wounded.

"Alpha! You're injured!" one of them cried out.

"Bring her back to me. Now." I commanded, my voice low and dangerous.

The security team immediately sprang into action, rushing out to capture Erin.

Shortly after, Beta Tom and Delta Mark hurried in. Their faces paled at the sight of the blood on my chest.

"Derek! What happened?" Tom rushed forward but stopped a few steps away, cautiously observing my expression.

I didn't answer, staring instead at the blood-stained dart I held in my hand—the one Erin had dropped.

"You need to take care of that wound," Tom said, concern in his voice. "Let me call a doctor for you."

"Bring that woman back to me, Tom," I said, my voice unnaturally calm. "She thinks a dart could kill me? How naively amusing."

I chuckled, but the sound was cold and hollow. Tom and Mark exchanged a horrified glance. They hadn't seen me like this in a long time.

Tom's eyes dimmed. He had hoped I could change, become a better leader, a better man. But it seemed Erin Blackwood—my only soul mate—had only succeeded in turning me back into the cold, ruthless, feared "old Derek."

I gestured to Mark. "Bring me the agreement."

Mark nodded, quickly leaving the room. Minutes later, he returned with a document in hand. This was the agreement I had originally planned for Erin to sign—one that would have allowed her to leave the Darkwood Pack safely with her mother without binding herself to Alexander, with no further obligation to me.

I glanced at the document, then tore it to shreds.

"Fuck the agreement. Draft a new one," I commanded, my eyes cold. "She hates me, does she? I'll show her what real hatred looks like."

I dropped the dart and turned to leave the gym. I didn't look back to see his reaction. I just wanted to get out of there, back to the hospital, to make sure my mother received the treatment she needed.

I stumbled out of the Stone Group building, my heart pounding violently. What had I just done? I had stabbed the Alpha of the Darkwood Pack. I knew what that meant—a direct challenge to an Alpha, the first time in my life I had actually attacked him.

But I didn't regret it. He had used my mother's life as leverage, and that was unforgivable.

I tried calling Alexander again, but still no answer. I felt a surge of frustration and anxiety. Why wasn't Alexander answering when I needed him most?

I stood on the sidewalk in front of the building, trying to gather my thoughts. I had just stabbed Derek Stone. No matter what he had done to me, no matter how cruel he had been, I had stabbed a Pack Alpha. And this Alpha happened to be my soul mate.

I felt a pang of guilt but immediately pushed it down. No, I wouldn't feel guilty for what I'd done. I was protecting my mother. Derek was the one who should feel guilty—he was playing with my mother's life.

"It's his fault!" I shouted. "He threatened my mother's life first!"

The security guard ignored my protests, forcibly dragging me back into the building. They escorted me into the elevator, straight to the top floor.

The elevator doors opened, and I was taken to a spacious office—Derek's private office. When the door opened, I saw Derek sitting on a black leather sofa, wearing a clean black shirt, no sign of any wound visible.

The security guard roughly pushed me down, forcing me to kneel before Derek. Derek's gaze was sharp as a knife, examining me like a predator would its prey.
