Bonded to My Ex's Alpha Brother Chapter 166
Erin's POV
As soon as the words left my mouth, something in Alexander's expression changed. His playful demeanor vanished, replaced by an unsettling stillness that made the fine hairs on my arms stand on end. Though his eyes remained fixed on the road ahead, I could feel the anger radiating from him—cold and controlled, but unmistakably there.
I turned my head and gasped as I spotted a massive truck barreling toward us in the adjacent lane. "Hey! Are you trying to get us killed? Pay attention to the road!" I snapped, my heart rate accelerating.
Alexander didn't even glance at the oncoming vehicle. "What are you afraid of?" he asked quietly, his voice eerily calm. "It would just be a damaged car."
I stared at him in disbelief, my fingers instinctively tightening around the edge of my seat. "W-what are you talking about? That's not funny. Focus on driving, Alexander." A chill crawled up my spine—he seemed completely unhinged in that moment.
To my horror, Alexander accelerated, steering the car directly toward the truck. My breath caught in my throat as panic seized my chest. "Alexander! What's wrong with you?" I shouted, unable to keep the fear from my voice.
"Why so afraid?" he asked, his tone almost curious as he continued driving toward certain collision. "Death is so close to you. Feel it."
I gripped my seatbelt with white knuckles, certain we were about to die. I squeezed my eyes shut, bracing for impact, my heart thundering against my ribcage.
Suddenly, the car swerved sharply to the right. I was thrown sideways, my body sliding across the leather seat toward Alexander. An arm wrapped around my waist, steadying me as the vehicle came to an abrupt stop. The expected crash never came.
I opened my eyes cautiously. We were parked on the shoulder of the road. No truck in sight. My chest heaved with each rapid breath as I realized I was pressed against Alexander's chest, his arm still holding me firmly.
Looking up, I froze. Alexander's eyes had transformed to a brilliant gold—the wolf eyes of an Alpha. I jerked backward in shock, scrambling back to my seat. By the time I'd recovered enough to look at him again, his eyes had returned to their normal color.
Alexander leaned closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. "If you want to kill me, you must first learn to face death. Only someone who isn't afraid to die can kill me."
The adrenaline in my system was slowly being replaced by anger. I shoved him away. "Are you insane? You could have killed us both!"
Alexander threw his head back and laughed. "You should see your face! You were terrified."
I glared at him, my hands balling into fists. "You think everything is a joke, don't you?"
"Keep looking at me like that," he murmured, his gaze suddenly intense. "It will kill me. Maybe that's what you meant earlier." Without another word, he restarted the car and pulled back onto the road.
I stared at him, trying to make sense of his bizarre behavior. No wonder people called him "reckless" in the pack. The man seemed to operate without any concern for consequences.
I retrieved the bouquet of flowers that had fallen to the floor during his dangerous driving stunt and tossed them onto the back seat. "Your joke almost scared me to death," I muttered angrily.
"You wouldn't have died," Alexander replied, his tone suddenly serious, almost harsh. "Because I would never kill anyone."
His response left me confused and concerned about my decision to align myself with him. Was this unpredictable man really going to help me get my revenge on Derek? I rubbed my temples and ran my fingers through my hair, trying to calm my nerves.
---
The car pulled up in front of an elegant club, its facade illuminated by subtle lighting that highlighted the exclusivity of the venue. Alexander turned off the engine and exited the vehicle, walking around to my side and opening my door, extending his hand toward me.
I hesitated, eyeing his outstretched palm with suspicion after his earlier stunt.
Alexander bent down, bringing his face closer to mine. "Don't be afraid. You're the only woman who can talk to me while looking me in the eyes. If you become scared of me like everyone else, I'll lose interest very quickly."
I took a deep breath and grasped his hand, stepping out of the car. Looking directly into his eyes, I said, "If you lose interest, that's fine by me. Because I don't have any interest in you either." My tone was sharp, but my gaze remained steady.
Alexander closed the car door behind me, a wolfish grin spreading across his face. "Forgive me. I just wanted to make you stronger so you won't be afraid when that man threatens to kill you."
I studied him, trying to understand his twisted logic. It was almost as if he genuinely wanted to help me in his own disturbed way. My thoughts drifted to Derek, and I couldn't help but offer Alexander a small smile. "Don't worry," I murmured. "One day, I'll pierce his chest without hesitation."
After a moment, I added, "Who knows? Maybe I'll overcome my fear of death to kill you too."
Alexander looked momentarily stunned by my words. I winked at him, walking ahead before turning back. "We're going to be late, boyfriend. Let's go."
He scoffed, shaking his head with an amused smile. "What a cold-hearted woman I've found!" I smirked, feeling a small satisfaction at having unsettled him for once.
Alexander handed his car keys to the waiting valet and offered me his arm. I slipped my hand through it, and together we walked toward the grand entrance of the club.
The moment we stepped into the vast hall, every conversation ceased. Heads turned in our direction, and I could feel the weight of dozens of stares. Many people lowered their heads respectfully toward Alexander, the Alpha of the Silverpine Pack.
Whispers rippled through the crowd. "Alpha Alexander is here!"
I tried to withdraw my hand from Alexander's arm, suddenly uncomfortable with the attention, but he stopped me. "Don't worry," he said with a smug smile. "They're just my admirers."
I noticed the shocked expressions directed my way. Apparently, Alexander had never brought a woman to these events before. I could see several important members of the Silverpine Pack watching us with undisguised curiosity.
Across the room, I spotted Amy waving enthusiastically. I made my way toward her, grateful for a familiar face.
"Where have you been?" she asked when I reached her. "We arrived before you did."
Alexander appeared at my side, answering before I could speak. "We took a little detour, spent some quality time together. Didn't we, darling?"
Amy cleared her throat, her eyes widening as she looked between us. I quickly shook my head, silently communicating that Alexander was just joking.
Before our conversation could continue, a hush fell over the room again. I turned to see what had captured everyone's attention, and my breath caught in my throat.
Derek Stone had entered the party with Mya Windsor on his arm.
