Bonded to My Ex's Alpha Brother Chapter 184

Erin's POV

Alexander dropped me off at the Blackwood residence without pressing the issue further. The house was quiet, most of the lights already off. I checked on my mother Elena, finding her asleep, her face peaceful in repose, before retreating to my own bedroom.

Without bothering to change my clothes, I lay down on my bed, staring at the ceiling where shadows danced with each passing car outside. The events of the evening replayed in my mind like a movie I couldn't stop. I had gone into that dinner expecting to feel satisfaction from confronting Derek, from showing him that I had moved on. But the hollow feeling in my chest told a different story.

Humiliating Derek hadn't brought the vindication I had expected. Instead, I felt empty, as if I had somehow diminished myself in the process. Was I becoming the very thing I despised in him—cold, calculating, willing to hurt others to prove a point?

I resolved to be stronger, not to show weakness in front of him again, but to find a more dignified path forward. The revenge I sought shouldn't cost my own integrity, my own sense of self.

With these thoughts circling in my mind, I drifted into an uneasy sleep, my dreams filled with shadowy figures and unspoken accusations.

Hours later, I woke suddenly, my werewolf senses alerting me to a presence in the room. My heart immediately began racing, adrenaline flooding my system as I lay perfectly still, feigning continued sleep while my senses sharpened.

The room was dark except for moonlight streaming through the window, casting long shadows across the floor. The familiar scents of my own bedroom—laundry detergent, the faint smell of the roses my mother kept in the hallway, my own perfume—were undercut by something else. Something masculine and unmistakable.

Leather and cedar, with undertones of something wild and untamed. A scent I knew as well as my own.

As my eyes adjusted to the dimness, I noticed a figure standing by the window. The glowing tip of a cigarette briefly illuminated a familiar profile—strong jaw, straight nose, the set of broad shoulders that I would recognize anywhere. The moonlight caught in his dark hair, giving it an almost bluish cast.

Shock jolted through me as I identified Derek Stone standing in my bedroom in the middle of the night. I sat up abruptly, my heart hammering in my chest, the sheets pooling around my waist. How had he gotten in? Why was he here, in my personal space, after everything that had happened between us?

"You!" I called out, my voice betraying my surprise despite my attempt to sound threatening. I knew exactly who it was—my enhanced werewolf senses confirmed it beyond doubt—but the demand came automatically, a futile attempt to deny the reality of his presence.

Derek didn't immediately respond to my question. He remained by the window, the ember of his cigarette glowing brighter as he took another drag. The smoke curled around him, visible in the moonlight that streamed through the window behind him, creating an almost ethereal effect.

My heart pounded so hard I was certain he could hear it. My senses were on high alert, my inner wolf stirring with a conflicting mixture of recognition and wariness.

"You are who?" I demanded again, this time my voice steadier. I reached for the lamp on my bedside table, but hesitated before switching it on.

Derek finally turned to face me fully, though his expression remained obscured by the darkness. He didn't answer my question, continuing to smoke with a casual air that belied the extraordinary nature of his presence in my bedroom in the middle of the night.

The silence stretched between us, taut with unspoken words and shared history. I could feel my wolf responding to his proximity, an instinctive pull I resented but couldn't deny. My fingers clutched at the bedsheets, anchoring myself physically as emotions threatened to overwhelm me.

"What are you doing in my room, Alpha Derek?" I finally asked, emphasizing his title with barely concealed disdain.

---

Even in the darkness, Derek's presence dominated the space. It had always been this way—his natural Alpha aura filling any room he occupied, demanding attention and submission. I had once found it compelling, even comforting. Now, it felt like an intrusion, a reminder of everything I had lost and everything I could never have.

There was something paradoxical about him—the cool control he always maintained, the calculated decisions he made for the good of the pack, contrasted with the wild, untamed power that radiated from him. It was as if he existed in two worlds simultaneously, never fully belonging to either. Perhaps that was why he seemed to understand my own divided nature better than anyone else.

But understanding wasn't the same as accepting. He had rejected our bond, and in doing so, rejected me.

Derek extinguished his cigarette on what appeared to be a small metal case he carried, then turned to face me fully. The moonlight caught his profile, illuminating the sharp angles of his face. He took a step toward the bed, and I instinctively moved back, pressing against the headboard.

"Stay away," I warned, my voice low. "You have no right to be here."

"No right?" Derek repeated, his voice equally soft but carrying an undercurrent of something dangerous. "You don't understand rights and territories, do you, Erin?"

He took another step closer. My wolf stirred restlessly within me, recognizing her mate despite all the reasons to reject him. It was maddening, this primal response I couldn't control, this yearning that persisted despite my conscious hatred of the man before me.

"I understand that breaking into someone's bedroom is inappropriate behavior for an Alpha," I retorted, surprised by my own boldness. "What would your pack think of their leader sneaking around like a thief in the night?"

A humorless chuckle escaped him. "What would your new fiancé think of this arrangement?" he countered. "You, in your bed, with another man in your room?"

The implication made my cheeks burn with anger. "There is no 'arrangement' here," I hissed. "You broke into my room uninvited. I'm seconds away from calling for my brother."

Derek's voice was confident, almost mocking. "Your brother can do nothing to me, and you know it."

The statement hung between us, a reminder of the vast power imbalance that had always defined our relationship. Pack hierarchy was unyielding, and Derek stood at its apex. Aaron, despite his position as an enforcer, would be no match for the Alpha.

I swallowed hard, struggling to maintain my composure. "This—this is not acceptable behavior for an Alpha," I repeated, hating how my voice trembled slightly. "You can't just come into people's rooms without permission. You think because you're an Alpha, you can do whatever you want?"

"For me, you're not just anyone," Derek said, his voice dropping to a near whisper.

The words hit me with unexpected force, stirring memories I had tried to bury. Moments when he had looked at me with something other than cold dismissal, fleeting touches that had seemed to hold meaning, promises that had never been kept.

"No," I agreed, my voice bitter. "I'm the mate of your competitor. Is that why you're here? To threaten me? To warn me against marrying Alexander?"
