Choosing Between a Vampire and a Werewolf Chapter 4

Rage surged to the top of my head, anger making my vision swim.

The person I'd loved for a lifetime, the person I'd given myself to completely for the first time.

Made me look like a clown, played me for a fool. How ridiculous and pathetic.

Inadvertently, I stepped on a dead branch underfoot that made a sound. Faye looked over.

Through the bushes, our eyes met, and the corner of her mouth curved up slightly.

My heart filled with foreboding. Then she raised her hand, pointing at me, and let out a piercing scream.

"Ryan, there's an assassin! Save me!"

Darian immediately drew his blade and thrust it straight at me.

I froze in terror.

Werewolves were skilled fighters, extremely fast. I had no time to dodge.

Seeing the sharp blade tip approaching my body, I closed my eyes in despair, my body trembling uncontrollably.

But the next second, a clang—the sound of blade meeting sword rang out.

I snapped my eyes open to see vampire Cillian standing before me, firmly protecting me.

Half the bushes were cut down. Darian finally saw me behind them, his expression somewhat stunned.

Only then did Faye run over in panic: "Holy Maiden, it's you. I saw someone lurking behind the bushes and thought it was an assassin."

Cillian looked at me anxiously: "Holy Maiden, are you hurt?"

I shook my head. He then turned to rebuke Darian: "Are you blind? You almost injured the Holy Maiden."

Darian looked completely unconcerned.

"She was lurking suspiciously behind the bushes. Who knows what she was up to? Being hurt would teach her a lesson."

He raised an eyebrow at Cillian, his tone mocking.

"What's your relationship with the Holy Maiden that you're so anxiously trying to please her? Don't tell me you think she'll choose you?"

Darian laughed loudly: "Don't get your hopes up. Though I don't like Bella, the person she chooses will definitely be me. The shaman's arriving soon—I'll go wait."

He put his arm around Faye and quickly left.

Cillian's eyes darkened, then he forced a smile looking at me: "Holy Maiden, let's go too!"

Seeing him like this made my heart flutter. I forgot to refute Darian's baseless confidence.

I followed him step by step to the altar.

The shaman held his spirit staff and slowly walked up, chanting prayers in an incomprehensible language.

The spectators below began discussing.

"Who do you think the Holy Maiden will choose as her mate?"

"Need you ask? In recent days, how many gifts has the Holy Maiden sent to the wolf tribe? Her intentions are obvious."
