POV Fenrir Dăneşti

"Has Savannah come downstairs yet?" I asked Anton as soon as I entered the house.

He looked at me strangely and ran a hand through his hair.

"Can't you smell her?"

Yes, I could.

"Isn't it the same scent as before, deeply ingrained?"

He shook his head.

"She spent the last few hours releasing pheromones non-stop, and... I think she destroyed your room. She dragged furniture around and made a lot of noise."

Rage flared inside me.

"And why the hell didn’t you go stop her?"

The damn inhibitor should have kicked in by now. She shouldn’t still be in heat.

"Are you crazy? Look at this delicious smell she’s exhaling. If I went in there, she could attack me. Nicoleta didn’t even get close to the second floor. She said when a wolf is like that, if another female comes close, she freaks out."

Out of everything he said, only one thing triggered in my brain.

"Delicious smell?" I growled, breathing heavily, grinding my teeth.

Anton took a step back, feeling the sudden shift in the atmosphere.

"Do you want me to lie to you? Her scent doesn’t affect me the way it should, because deep down, I can sense a note of it, but still, it’s... nice." He threw his arms up, exasperated. "And she’s contaminated the whole damn house with it. Nicoleta ran out of here, panicking, scared that Savannah would smell her and go crazy."

I grabbed my hair in frustration.

"Why the hell didn’t the heat inhibitor work?"

"I don’t know. Has this happened before?"

I shot him a sideways glance.

"It’s not like I spend enough time next to a female in heat to know."

"Well... neither do I."

I felt irritated and frustrated.

I had been away long enough, avoiding thinking about her and her condition before I lost control again. I walked for miles, dragging the damn thing far away, not because it was necessary, but to occupy my mind. I dismembered the body, separating it into parts in an attempt to help the animals that would devour it. Then I went to the village center and observed each of my wolves, trying to sense any surprise from any of them. I found nothing. So I went to the lumber mill and reviewed some reports without necessity before returning.

"Shit, this is going to be impossible to handle," I muttered.

"If you want, leave, go somewhere else. Andrei and I will take turns until her heat is over."

I frowned at him.

"So you can just keep smelling her and say it’s nice?" Every time I remembered what he had said, the more furious I got.

"Fuck, Fenrir." He huffed.

Savannah let out a loud howl from upstairs, filled with desperation and pain. Anton and I exchanged looks. I shot toward the stairs, using my inhuman speed to reach her.

I barged into the room without thinking twice.

I stopped, shocked at what I was seeing. Anton was right behind me.

"What the hell is this?" I asked in a whisper, analyzing the situation.

Savannah had... destroyed my room. The furniture was out of place, my clothes were shredded on the bed, and the pillows were the same. Feathers were everywhere, some floating in the air and others stuck in her hair.

She was sitting facing the door, wearing one of my t-shirts. Her emerald-green eyes shone, showing that it wasn’t with her, the woman, that I would be dealing, but with the wolf.

The scent was even stronger than in the rest of the house, as if it was ingrained in the walls.

"Did she make a nest?" Anton shot out, shocked.

I had heard of females doing that. They made nests when they went into heat, creating a comfortable place for the supposed pups they would have. Not all of them did it, though.

"Looks like it."

One part of me was shocked and furious at Savannah for destroying my room, while another part, specifically my beast, was bursting with pride for the little wolf.

"Her scent is... even better from up here."

A growl rumbled in my chest.

"Get the hell out of here, Anton. Leave this house before I kill you."

I felt the shift in my body, the oscillation between man and beast. The little control I had left was slipping away, becoming almost nonexistent.

I wanted to gut Anton. My more grotesque and savage side screamed for it. I wanted to rip his throat out, make him die choking on his own blood. He had seen Savannah half-naked and smelled her scent.

The scent that belonged only to me.

But I managed to maintain control because I understood what it meant. I was under the effects of her heat, acting in the most primitive way, just like our instincts told us. Anton wasn’t to blame, and I would never forgive myself if I killed my friend. If I were younger, maybe he wouldn’t have been so lucky.

It was hard, painful, and even cruel to control these instincts.

"I’m leaving, you don’t have to tell me twice." He ran down the stairs, stumbling over his own feet.

I faced Savannah and stepped into the room, analyzing her.

"Why didn’t the inhibitor work?" I asked.

She didn’t answer, just watched me, tilting her head. Her movements weren’t natural, they were excessive and slow. The little wolf stared at me as if I were her prey.

She was kneeling on the bed, her hands clasped in front of her, acting like nothing more than an innocent and vulnerable female, but the gleam in her eyes told a different story. I knew she would attack me at the first opportunity.

I took another step.

"Do you know this is wrong? That you might regret it later?"

She slowly rose and walked toward me with calculated steps. She looked even more beautiful when she was halfway transformed. Her emerald-green eyes glowed with such intensity and depth that I could lose myself in them. Her brown hair fell over her face in messy waves, full of feathers from the pillows she had shredded.

She parted her lips and let out a moan.

"Ahhh..."

"Savannah," I snarled.

She blinked, pulling back slightly from the wildness in her gaze.

"Please, Fenrir," she begged, taking some control over her body. "I know what this means. And it’s not just my wolf who wants this. I want it too. I feel her need, our need, and it’s you I want. It’s your scent I need on me. The desire is mutual."

"It won’t be like before, we will be driven by the intensity of the heat. Are you sure this is what you want?"
