Into the Alpha’s Keep Chapter 94: 94

His voice, exactly as I remembered it, gave me chills. Not the good kind, but the kind of pure fear.

"There's my informant," Marilyn shot, pointing at him.

"Since you're so curious about your sister, I decided to go straight to the most reliable source of all, Hunter himself."

Anton gasped, noticing the seriousness of the situation. He held me tightly in his arms, pulling me closer to him.

"You didn’t do this," he growled, unleashing his anger at the damned, treacherous bitch.

"Of course I did. Did you think I’d let this bitch take my place without doing anything?" Marilyn replied.

Anton looked at her, incredulous. "He's going to kill her! She's bonded with Fenrir, you’ll kill Fenrir too. Is that what you want?"

Marilyn rubbed her thumb across her lips, pretending to think. "We made a deal. Hunter won’t kill precious Savannah."

I heard his footsteps crushing the snow as he circled around us and stopped next to Marilyn. I fixed my gaze on him, feeling a mix of emotions, all of them very different from what I felt for him months ago. He was still the same.

Tall, with defined muscles, though not as much as Fenrir’s, deep, expressive brown eyes, and now I could clearly see how crazed they were. His hair was a bit longer, and a beard framed his square jaw.

Seeing him, I could only feel: Disgust. Anger. Revulsion. Hatred.

Even his scent seemed to bother me. Hunter meant nothing to me anymore, nothing but a bastard I’d love to see lifeless.

For a long time, I thought about how I would react when I saw him again. I spent my whole life thinking I loved him, that he was the perfect match for me.

When I ran away from him, I felt destroyed, deceived, with a broken heart.

And over time, all the pain of betrayal transformed into pure hate and disgust. But now, after so much time fearing even hearing his name, all I could feel was contempt and fear.

Fear for myself, for Fenrir, and for Anton.

I feared for our lives, our freedom.

Just as I felt anger toward Marilyn and her ability to betray someone who trusted her blindly. The brown eyes, which I once thought I loved, met mine, and a half-smile appeared on his lips.

"Did you miss me, my love?" he asked, sounding like the true psychopath he was.

"You son of a bitch!" I howled.

He laughed and turned to Marilyn. "Doesn't she look cute all feisty? I’ll have a good job taming her."

Anton shielded my body with his, keeping me away from everyone, trying to protect me with his life.

"I think Fenrir gave her a bit of a lesson, but... I confess, sometimes he can be a bit soft, so yes, you’ll have some work to do," the damn bitch murmured.

He sighed. "I sent some men for that, but she managed to escape all of them. She’s become a smart bitch."

He laughed. "Doesn’t even seem like the same idiot who I fooled for years."

"Oh, she's not that smart. I knew she’d be suspicious if I came straight to her. But all I had to do was use Anton, feed her some false information, act uninterested, and try to stop her from coming, and she fell right into the trap."

She clicked her tongue.

"So easy to fool you two idiots, you barely questioned if everything I said was true."

"How dare you betray Fenrir like this, Marilyn? I thought you loved him!" I screamed, horrified.

"He'll kill me at the first opportunity, do you really think this damn traitor will keep his word?"

"Actually, I will keep my word," Hunter retorted.

"I realized in the past few months that you’re worth something, since you managed to catch the attention of an important alpha like Fenrir, and on top of that, you mated with him."

"He’ll never stop looking for me," I asserted.

A smile appeared on Hunter’s face, his white teeth contrasting with his tanned skin.

"He will."

I furrowed my brow, confused. My fingers were gripping Anton’s arms, squeezing so hard I must have been leaving marks.

"Hunter will perform the ritual on you," Marilyn answered, shrugging.

"He’ll sever your bond with Fenrir, so you’ll no longer be his obsession, and he’ll leave our lives once and for all."

I shook my head, laughing. "Are you really that stupid of a bitch?"

I motioned toward Hunter with my chin.

"He hates Fenrir for touching me and for killing his trusted males. He’ll kill me to get to the alpha."

The bastard placed a hand on his heart and sighed dramatically.

"Wow, my love, you have so little regard for my word?" He blinked slowly.

"But I understand, it’s my fault after everything I did for you. I’m being honest, sweetheart. I just want to have you back, by my side, as my wife."

"I prefer death!"

"Uh, that one stung!" he mocked. "You didn’t think like this months ago."

"Why believe you? Why not kill me to end Fenrir’s life?" Anton asked, taking a subtle step back, slowly distancing us from them while trying to distract them.

Hunter messed up his hair with the palm of his hand.

"Because I know how the Carpathian packs work, and I’ll start a war I don’t want if I end his life."

"How so?" I asked, taking another step back.

He shrugged. "Vanóia stopped selling us the heat inhibitors since we started attacking Dăneşti’s lands. I kill Fenrir, and the next day, my territory is invaded, and more of my wolves are killed. That’s not what I want."

He glared at me, his hatred showing.

"I just came to take what belongs to me, the she-wolf who was given to me in a blood oath when she was just a pup."

I couldn’t think or reason clearly. I just wanted to find a way to escape them with Anton. Fenrir wasn’t around, and even though I felt my desperation, he wouldn’t get here in time.

We had to find a way to get the guards' attention, to return to the territory’s borders.

"I stopped belonging to you the moment you killed my father, breaking the vows, you damn liar!"

He rolled his eyes.

"I didn’t kill your father, I killed your mother! My father is the one who killed yours, if you’re not remembering."

I took another step, pulling Anton with me.

"Where’s my sister?"

"As much as I wanted to have the little bitch in my hands, unfortunately, I couldn’t find her. I haven’t heard anything about her."

He smiled briefly.

"For a while, I thought she was with you, but I only found out she wasn’t after I accidentally bumped into this lovely omega at a bar."

He looked at Marilyn, scanning her face.

"Even though she rejected me since she only has eyes for the almighty Fenrir, she gave me some very interesting information. She didn’t know you had a sister. It was a shock for both of us, for me, because I didn’t know Selena wasn’t with you, and for her, because she didn’t know anything."

"I had already suspected something was wrong," she interrupted.

"I saw Anton and Andrei walking around the city like two lost dogs, searching for something they couldn’t find."

"So, you thought it would be a brilliant idea to deceive all of us?"

Anton retorted, turning his head toward the female.

"Deceive Fenrir, the male who trusted you, who always respected you?" He hissed in a high-pitched tone. Hunter nodded.

"Actually, it was Marilyn’s idea, I can’t take the glory from her."

Another step. She looked at the male and widened her eyes.

"And in the end, we did make a good pair."

"Definitely! You’re so sharp, Fenrir’s lucky to have someone like you in his life," Hunter praised. "Finally, someone who values what I do for love."

"Fenrir will never forgive you, he’ll end you when he finds out everything you’ve done," I spat, wrinkling my nose in disgust.

Marilyn clicked her tongue.

"Oh, yes, he will. Fenrir doesn’t like you, he only likes the comfort you give him, helping him forget about Catalina. He’d wake up eventually, but if I can help him react sooner, why not?" she hissed. "I’ve been by his side all this time, for the last fifty years, it’s me he needs, and I’m the one he loves. I’m his escape valve, he always comes back to me, one way or another."
