Love Drug Chapter 265: Xavier's Warning

4 min 1 views

He slumped into his seat with an air of lazy indifference, his handsome face expressionless. His long legs were crossed at the ankles, the fabric of his tailored pants smooth and immaculate.

Xavier watched the stage sway as he took a leisurely sip of his drink. "What's with the sudden invitation?"

Fraser shot him a look. "No women tonight? That's not like you."

Xavier grinned. "I have my eye on someone. Until I win her, I'll keep my hands to myself."

Fraser picked up a glass of strong liquor from the table and downed it in one gulp, offering a terse assessment, "Rare."

Xavier raised an eyebrow. "Aren't you curious who it is?"

Fraser lifted his lids indifferently. "Not interested."

Xavier was speechless.

"It's Summer..." Before he could finish, Xavier felt the weight of a sharp, icy stare land on him.

He chuckled awkwardly. "Easy there, Mr. Graham. I wasn't finished. It's Summer's friend, Yvette."

"That actress?"

"Actress?" Xavier scoffed. "She's a star! The most beautiful one at that."

Fraser had no interest and returned to his drink. Then his hand stopped in mid-air. "Don't go after her."

"Why not?"

Since when did Fraser have a say in whom I dated?

Fraser narrowed his eyes, deadly serious. "If you pursue her and then dump her, Summer will make my life hell."

Xavier froze.

The prejudice is unreal.

"What if I'm serious this time?"

Fraser gives him a side-eye. "You?"

I admitted that I'd had a few girlfriends before. But each relationship had been genuine; since when was monogamy the only measure of sincerity?

Knowing that Fraser wouldn't understand, Xavier changed the subject. "So, what did you want to talk about?"

Fraser swirled the glass of imported wine in his hand, his deep voice tinged with frustration.

"I confessed to Summer. I even proposed. Why won't she accept?"

Xavier studied him. "Weren't you two broken up before?"

Fraser hummed noncommittally.

"Most women wouldn't jump right into marriage without getting back together first. Mr. Graham, do you mind if I ask how you and Summer got started in the first place?"

Fraser tapped his fingers slowly on the table. "Started?"

"Wait. I know. I flew a damn plane to deliver medicine for you, then waited five damn hours."

Xavier remembered that day vividly. I'd been such a fool.

Risky, reckless, "After that...you didn't force Summer to do it, did you?"

In the next second, Fraser's icy stare cut through him.

Xavier's neck went cold. He backed away quickly. "I see the problem now. It’s trust between you two."

Fraser's gaze sharpened, urging him to continue.

"You and Summer were headed in the wrong direction when you were together. Now you're divorced with a child on the way, and your big romantic gesture is a marriage proposal? No wonder she doesn't believe you."

Summer had two months to find a successor for the Stewart Group and settle all the loose ends.

She'd been swamped at the company every day.

Selling her shares would have been the quickest solution-but that risked Jasper Stewart regaining control.

Summer refused to let that happen.

The person with the most connections in that area was Lucas.

As soon as the thought crossed her mind, she called him.

A warm, cultured voice answered. "Summer? What can I do for you?"

"Mr. Lucas, I need a favor. Do you know any experienced business management professionals you could recommend?"

"What is it?" Lucas asked.

"I'm looking for a professional manager to take over the Stewart Group."

Lucas's tone became concerned. "Why the sudden decision?"

Summer didn't hide it. "I'm leaving Havenbrook in a few months."

On the other end, Lucas stopped mid-twist of his black pen. His brow furrowed slightly.

"Remember that dinner you owe me?" He asked.

"Hm?" Summer was questioned.

Lucas chuckled. "How about tonight? I have a few candidates in mind; it's easier to discuss in person."

Since she had no plans, Summer agreed.

Night, in Lumina Restaurant, Summer arrived a little late due to traffic.

A waiter spotted her immediately. "This way, miss."

She frowned and scanned the empty dining room. Not one other customer tonight.

Lucas stood up when he saw her and pulled out the chair across from him.

"Thank you." Summer sat down, then looked around again. "Why is it so empty?"

Lucas smiled gently. "I didn't want any distractions."
