My Fake Friend Called Me a Homewrecker Chapter 7
The safe zone had actually been hit pretty hard. At least the people who used to live comfortably were now down to one meal a day if they were lucky.
Seeing their gaunt, malnourished faces, I couldn't help but sigh. I set up a spot on the roadside and distributed the food and water we'd brought.
This scene really hit close to home. After all, deep down I still considered myself human. I sympathized with humanity's suffering and wanted to help however I could.
As for why I ran away before?
Ha.
Was I supposed to stick around and wait for the authorities to capture me and Quinn?
In this post-apocalyptic world, the scheming and backstabbing were no different from before the apocalypse—maybe even worse.
If I hadn't left, Quinn and I probably wouldn't have survived to see the zombie outbreak.
After distributing all the food, I took Quinn's hand and continued walking deeper into the zone.
Quinn and I had prepared for this before coming here.
So when several ability users appeared, looking at us with extreme suspicion, I smiled calmly, completely unsurprised.
Surprisingly, the most intact place in the entire safe zone was my old university.
Sitting in the clean principal's office, the safe zone's leader sat across from Quinn and me, staring in shock at the zombie cores laid out in front of him.
The ability users standing around couldn't control the greedy expressions on their faces.
"These are..." he began.
"Zombie cores," I said with a slight smile, finishing his sentence since he seemed too shocked to complete it himself.
"But how did you get these?" the leader asked incredulously.
"Now that zombies have all evolved, even low-level zombies are difficult to extract cores from. How did you obtain so many?"
"You don't need to worry about our methods. I'm here to make a deal with you," I said softly. Quinn beside me gently squeezed my hand.
"A deal that will create a new world... where humans and zombies can coexist."
