My Fake Friend Called Me a Homewrecker Chapter 8
After evolving, zombies were no longer content to wander aimlessly and bite anyone they saw like their low-level predecessors.
They'd developed consciousness and were building their own society, constructing towns and establishing normal routines, just like humans used to.
Um...
Yeah, exactly like humans.
When I told this to the leader, he was clearly conflicted.
But I'd said my piece. There was no need to wait around anymore.
After all, they had no choice.
If they didn't make peace, humanity would be the ones to perish.
Sure, humans turning into zombies and then living zombie lives as they once lived human lives seemed like some kind of cycle. But fundamentally, everything had changed drastically.
At the very least, becoming a zombie was an incredibly painful process.
So Quinn and I left the principal's office and started wandering around campus.
When I'd found Quinn, I'd already graduated and never had time to show him around my old school.
Now we had time.
Thinking about how my identity was different from before, but I was still standing on the same ground with the same person... well, actually calling him a person—no, calling him a zombie was more accurate.
We walked leisurely, taking our time.
The atmosphere was just right when it was suddenly interrupted by an unwelcome visitor.
"Sophia! I knew it was you!" A familiar voice called from behind. I instinctively turned to see two familiar figures running toward me.
I raised an eyebrow.
Oh?
What a small world.
"Sophia, you're back! Why didn't you tell me? I could have come to meet you!" My former fake friend grabbed my hand enthusiastically, but her eyes were warily fixed on Quinn beside me.
Quinn indifferently turned his gaze elsewhere.
He'd never been interested in this sort of thing.
I smiled helplessly, looking at my fake friend. Despite her sallow complexion, her clothes were still relatively clean. I slowly pulled my hand away.
"Lily, I don't think our relationship is at the level where we can link arms and chat."
Lily's face immediately stiffened, and she awkwardly lowered her arm.
"Sophia, are you still mad at me?" Lily's face crumpled into a pitiful expression.
"Sophia, I admit I was wrong back then, but I was deceived by that guy! Sophia, you're my best friend, I..."
"Stop, stop, stop. The guilt trip doesn't work on me," I said, cutting her off. My whole body cringed at her words.
"I don't care what you're going through. Don't make yourself sound so noble. You came looking for me just to get some food."
These two had been following me for a while now—basically since I started distributing food.
Having her true motives exposed so directly, both Lily and my former academic advisor standing beside her stiffened simultaneously.
While Lily said nothing, the advisor huffed indignantly.
"Since you know, why don't you hand over the food already!"
Quinn immediately turned back, coldly sweeping his eyes over the advisor.
I took his hand, signaling him to keep enjoying the scenery.
"Advisor... I'm calling you 'advisor' not because you mean anything to me, but purely because I have manners," I said with a light smile, though my eyes were cold as I looked at her.
"Honestly, besides being my advisor in college, what connection do you have to me?"
"Oh, now I remember. When I was in college, you constantly targeted me."
I only found out about this later.
A classmate who knew what was happening couldn't stand it anymore and told me the truth.
Every time I got into a dispute with other students, even when they were clearly in the wrong, the advisor always blamed me.
I'd questioned myself countless times, wondering if I was really that unlikeable.
All those doubts crumbled the day my classmate told me the truth.
Anyway...
Long story short, the advisor disliked me and even tried to gaslight and manipulate me.
And the reason for all of it? Lily didn't like me. She hated me. She was even jealous of me.
But why would she be jealous of me?
Sure, I'm pretty good-looking, but I'm just a small-time influencer with no money.
Meanwhile, Lily's family was loaded and even had certain privileges.
So I really couldn't understand why she'd be jealous of me.
