Full Moon Countdown: 1 day.

I started moving my things out bit by bit, masking my scent so he wouldn't notice.

But he found out anyway.

After a meeting, Liam invited me to sit in his office.

As soon as I sat down, he asked:

"Have you been moving a lot of stuff out lately? I haven't seen you back at the Upper East Side. I can't smell you in the house anymore."

I nodded and used the excuse I had prepared.

"Yeah, I'm staying in Brooklyn for a while to find some inspiration."

Liam looked hesitant.

"About the ceremony, I've thought about it for a long time. We can still do it..."

I interrupted him. "The full moon is coming. No need."

The man was surprised. "What do you mean the full moon is coming?"

I hesitated, wondering if I should show him the dissolution agreement that had already taken effect.

A perfectly timed call from Chloe helped me out.

I looked at the name on his phone and smiled.

"You go ahead and get busy. Our business isn't urgent."

Liam turned the doorknob. To express his apology, he turned back and reiterated a promise:

"I will definitely come to Brooklyn to find you tomorrow."

The next day, he flaked again.

I sat on the worn-out sofa in the old apartment, looking down at my phone.

Countdown: 12 hours.

A CNN news alert popped up with a local story.

Chloe made an appearance at a new charity gala. Liam stood behind her as her date, displaying his ownership to everyone.

Recalling the promise the man made yesterday, I couldn't help but laugh at myself.

If he knew these were his last 12 hours with me, would the wolf inside him tear him apart with its howling?

Maybe not.

But the answer didn't matter anymore.

I spent a few hours tidying up the room.

I called Sarah. Even though I had told her before, I said goodbye again.

Then I dialed my werewolf clan lawyer.

"The mate dissolution agreement was notarized a month ago. I don't need to do any more paperwork, right?"

The lawyer's answer was concise.

"No need. The Council has already filed and approved it. Tonight, when the full moon rises, the bond will break automatically."

After a pause, his congratulations came through the line:

"Congratulations, Ms. Elena. You are free."

I smiled and hung up.

I waited quietly until nightfall.

Countdown: 3 hours. I packed all my luggage.

Countdown: 2 hours. I cut up every photo of us together.

Countdown: 1 hour. I arranged the copy of the agreement neatly on the table.

I wanted to leave a note, but decided against it.

Carrying my suitcase, I placed my hand on the doorknob the moment the countdown ended.

In the sky, the full moon rose.

My heart gave a violent, painful spasm. That was the signal of the bond snapping.

It was over.

My nightmare.

Unexpectedly, the door opened from the outside.

Liam was covered in sweat, as if he had run all the way. His shirt collar was slightly open.

He was panting heavily, his face pale, clutching his chest—he obviously felt that intense pain too.

"I'm sorry, Elena. I just dropped someone off... The car got a flat tire on the way, I ran all the way here... My chest hurts so bad, did something happen to you?"

He paused, his gaze landing on my luggage and the ticket in my hand.

"Where are you going?"
