Rejected by the Alpha, Marked by the Lycan King Chapter 5
I flipped the ticket over to show him. It read Seattle, three thousand miles away—the territory of another Wolf King.
Liam frowned. "Why are you suddenly going to the unclaimed lands? You didn't even tell me. What if rogue wolves attack you?"
I shrugged, indifferent. "It's not necessary. Just a normal job transfer."
Liam grabbed my wrist, not quite believing me. "So sudden? We just collaborated on a project. Are you just abandoning it?"
I gently pried his fingers off, maintaining a certain distance.
My body temperature no longer comforted him, and he could no longer smell the jasmine scent that used to calm him—because the bond was broken.
But my slight step backward wounded Liam's pride as an Alpha.
He looked at me with confused eyes, his outstretched hand trembling slightly.
As if sensing something, he asked, "When... when are you coming back?"
I shook my head and answered with a smile. "I'm not coming back."
Sorrow completely overtook Liam's face. He looked at me in disbelief, wanting to grab me, but I dodged him, step by step.
He was like a puppy suddenly abandoned, wanting to come closer but afraid to.
Liam suddenly rushed out and returned with a massive bouquet of "Moonflowers"—the sacred courting flower of the wolf tribe.
He thrust the bouquet in front of me. "On the way here, I already prepared the ceremony. It's this weekend."
"Elena, don't go. This week, I will definitely stay with you."
I looked at the precious flowers, remembering when we first got together, I once begged him for a single bloom.
Back then, Liam refused me.
Later, I learned from his private journal that in his heart, Moonflowers could only be given to his recognized Luna.
Now, seeing such a huge bouquet, the heart that should have been leaping with joy was incredibly calm.
I took the flowers from Liam and dumped them straight into the metal trash can at the apartment door, right in front of his face.
Liam's expression instantly shifted from surprise to shock.
"Elena—" Liam called my name, a low whimper vibrating in his throat.
"I don't need your flowers. I'm leaving. Goodbye, Liam."
This was the first time in five years I had called his name so coldly, and I hoped it would be the last.
I dragged my suitcase and started walking out.
Liam finally grasped the most jarring point. Panicked, he pressed down on my suitcase and asked:
"You really... aren't coming back, are you?"
I snatched my suitcase back for the last time, drawing a clean line between us.
"We have already dissolved our mate relationship. What reason would I have to come back?"
