The Alpha's Hunt Chapter 67
Nora had left to continue working but she said I could stay in her room for as long as I wanted. I got into reading her book, it was a fairytale about a water elf who fell in love with a forest elf. They were rivals with great responsibilities to their own land and people but their love didn't dim with the time they were forced to stay apart- if anything it grew until the pain of being separated was stronger than their love for each other. As a result of their wounded hearts, the oceans turned into chaos with waves so big they covered entire cities. The forest slowly died, the tree crowns hung as though on a tired neck and the colors turned grey from decay.
Their families came together to save what was left and decided to let the two lovers wed- this was the short version of the story but one thing I noticed was that I smiled through every page. It was painfully beautiful and magical, a romanticized world where love overcame everything.
I closed the book and put it under her pillow to make sure it was safe before I left the room.
Heading back to the main tower was difficult, it felt like I was voluntarily leaving behind a peaceful oasis to head back into Darian’s claws.
My bedroom door was still locked and I groaned when I succumbed to the notion that I had to go to Darian’s suite, all of my things were there and unless I wanted to sleep outside in the hallway I didn't have much of a choice.
The double doors stood open when I reached them. A small table was the first thing I saw when I walked in with a vase and freshly picked flowers. Behind the table was a wall and you had to turn left down a little entrance to reach the room.
Maybe room isn't the right word when its size is the same as a small apartment.
“You have got to be kidding me,” I scoffed when I turned the corner and saw the king-size bed pressed up against the wall with two smaller vanities on each side. The gold detail on the bedpost and the vanity under the window was something straight out of a royal magazine on interior design and the room had a lounge area between the bed and a fireplace- a large wooden desk by the window with a view overlooking the garden was what tied it all together.
“Not at all,”
The doors were open so I should've expected him to be here but that didn't make me any less jumpy.
I turned to watch him and saw the towel hanging on his hips while the rest of him was bared and pearls of water were still on his skin.
I told myself to keep a raised head and to stand tall, but he stepped closer, and when he towered over me I could feel how I shrunk as our eyes locked in a battle he knew that he was winning.
Darian’s chest flexed when he moved until he stood close enough that his shadow was cast over me.
“I didn’t know you’d be here,”
“In our room?” His voice was grave and dark and left little to be desired.
He took one step closer, I took one step back and he smiled. Darian turned around, ran a towel through his wet hair, and tossed it aside while he walked to the sofa.
This room was the polar opposite of his playroom. Everything here was bright, either white, beige, or gold with splashes of royal blue but it didn't look like what I thought it would.
The room was suited for a king, not a monster.
He took a seat on the beige sofa and spread his arms over the headrest.
If the gods had a mold of one of their own, they used that to create Darian. He was different from all other males in every aspect and it was hard to fathom how the Lycans used to be big packs like ourselves. I couldn't help the way that my eyes lingered on his chest and his arms, every time he moved his muscles bulged, and even now, sitting almost naked- covered only by a towel- he sent my warning bells into high gear telling me of the danger I was near.
“Come,”
I knew there was no point in arguing, if I defied him and stayed put he’d just drag me over there by my hair.
I forced my feet one step at a time and stopped when I stood in front of him.
“Do you know what I did today?”
Was he delusional or did he have time to do more than slaughter my entire family?
“Yes,” I seethed.
The bastard chuckled and wiggled his finger with a ’tsk’ sound dripping from his lips.
“No-no, not that. I assigned a pack of rogues some land inside the border to the kingdom. They have a patch where they will have everything they need including the protection of my guards. On this side of the border, they have a chance to thrive,”
He spoke like some saint trying to relay the good he had done as though he’d saved their lives.
“Why do you think that I would be at all interested in hearing about that?” I spat.
It was almost terrifying staring into his eyes now because I was learning to decipher what the different looks meant. The one that sparkled like a thousand stars in his forest green eyes had an equal amount of playfulness and malicious intent.
“Because I told them it was on your behalf, that I bestowed them with this kindness on your request,”
Which meant he could rip it from them just as easily and blame that on me as well. Anything that happened to them now would be in my name.
“You sadistic bastard! How-“
I choked on the rest of the words when he stood in a flash and grabbed my throat.
“The pack is the one that Nora belonged to, I hear you two have found common ground,” he said calmly and gritted his teeth, “you will do well to remember who you belong to. I own you, and you haven't tasted pain yet but if you think to conspire with that whore for even a second I will invite you to a world where you will forget what it feels like to exist without wanting to rip your brain from your skull just to stop the memories from playing. I will scar your body like a fucking map of the world until you beg me for what once was,” his lips moved over mine with each threat while I fended for a breath.
“I - I didn’t—please,” I clawed at his hand, desperate for air and Darian gently released the pressure around my throat so the air came through.
When he let go I fell against the opposite sofa and grabbed the armrest while I coughed and tried to take a breath. I looked up and saw him removing the towel while I stood and tried to pretend like I wasn't still lightheaded.
Darian tossed the towel on the floor- he walked over to the side of the sofa where his pants hung and pulled the belt from the loops.
What is he doing?
I watched as he walked closer and he pulled the belt in his hands making the leather smack together and I winced.
“Nora asked for a night out on the town- with you,” he said while he walked over.
“I didn’t know about that,”
He cocked his head to the side and looked ominously over my face.
“I believe you. She mentioned something else as well but by then my dick was so far down her throat that I couldn't make out what it was,”
I bit down and gritted my teeth but I refused to break eye contact. I needed the small wins, they were all I had for the moment. But as true as the fate I somehow earned myself in this lifetime, as true is the promise I make to myself to take him down- even if I take myself down with him.
Darian stopped and wrapped the belt around my neck before putting it through the buckle and a screeching yelp echoed from my lips.
He smiled, dragged his hand down my side, and played with the hem before he went under my shirt
“You look good on a leash,” he smirked.
He pulled me in like a dog- I slammed into his front and he brushed my hair away from my face.
“Now you’re going to take off your clothes and ride my cock until I tell you to stop,”
“Fuck you,” I spat and glared but wish to hell that I could do more damage than a stern look.
His minty breath fanned my face when he leaned in and I smelled the citrus in his hair.
“No, puppet. I'm going to fuck you,” he said and unhooked my brah.
