The Alpha's Hunt Chapter 70

The second we got back Darian had some pressing matters he had to get to which meant I had time to stash the dress and grab something to eat before I got ready.

The clock had to be around five pm and I still hadn't eaten, my stomach growled and I was still reliving our moment in the car.

There was nothing he could say that I wouldn't believe anymore, if he said he’d kill them, I believed him and my life isn't worth anyone else’s. My life isn't worth anything anymore as far as I could care. I saw those kids from the car and the second he said that he’d kill them, I suddenly saw their bodies flat not the ground. I didn't put anything past him. He’d already proven what he was capable of.

My head filled fast with the memories of my family but I shook them out and put them in a safe box in the shadowed parts of my mind where I knew they’d be safe. Once everything was done and Darian couldn't hurt me or, anyone else anymore, I would take the box out and release the memories. But I couldn't feel it right now, I had to keep a clear head.

I hurried up the stairs and into the room and hid the dress under the mattress on my side of the bed. I tucked the shoe box under a shelf in the closet where he wouldn't look and now I needed food before I passed out.

The chef had cooked together lamb and it smelled divine when I walked into the kitchen. I grabbed a plate and loaded it up, golfing it down in a hurry because I couldn't wait to get ready and leave this place.

Tonight might be a mistake, it probably is, and it is one that I'm looking forward to making.

Darian just stopped by the room once to change and let me know that his meetings would run late and that he had a scheduled meeting with Council members around midnight.

I contained my excitement and nodded like the docile mate he wanted me to be, stashing my voice away and saving it for later. The second he left the room I tossed the book aside and jumped up from the bed.

I grabbed the dress, and my heels and got started on the makeup- deciding to go for a dramatic look with a cat eye and a lighter purple eyeshadow.

I put my hair up in a messy ponytail and stepped back from the mirror when the whole look was done.

“You clean up well,” Trixy mused.

“Don’t I though?” I grinned.

“You do know that some people would consider this a suicide attempt,” she strutted over the bank of my mind.

“And where do you stand?” How people lived without wolves, I would never understand. To have a best friend constantly present and always up for anything was unbeatable; not that they had much of a choice.

“Me? I'm hella excited,”

A giggle rumbled in my chest and a giddy feeling spread through my body and down in my fingertips.

I grabbed my bag and checked the time, it was seven thirty pm, almost time to go.

When I went to the door, ready to leave, a note slid over the carpet and a shadow crossed the light shining in from the crack below the door.

I picked it up and that awful odor was again the only thing I smelled and it was really messing up my nose.

’Meet me in the foyer at eight pm sharp. You won't be sorry’

Was she serious? Now that would be a suicide attempt.

I turned it over hoping to see some scribble on the other side about how she was joking or that maybe she owned an invisibility cloak that I could use because this was bonkers.

The two options in front of me were I either went downstairs and met Nora in about twenty minutes or I stayed here, removed the makeup and crawled into bed, and felt bad for myself.

It wasn't an option. I couldn't stay here, I didn't dare to be alone with my thoughts right now.

The carpet would catch a dent from me tapping my foot to relieve some anxiety while I waited for the time to pass by. I counted down the minutes and then the seconds until it was time to go.

I opened the door and listened for any sounds but it was dead silent so I snuck out and hurried to the foyer.

Once I descended the stairs, about to reach the last hallway, a loud howl reached through the palace doors. I fell back against the wall, afraid that my heartbeat would give me away. The sound came from far away but it was a threat, followed by another and it sounded like it came from the border. The guards ran in unison in a group of five followed by another group that came from around the stairs.

I pressed myself back against the wall and watched one of the guards roll his eyes when they sprung to action.

Nora stood leaning against the door when I finally peeled myself from the wall and walked down the foyer.

Her eyes played mischievously when she stepped into the light and my eyes were immediately drawn to the leather miniskirt and the low-cut top.

“What was that howl? What happened?” I asked as if she would know.

To my surprise, Nora winked and hooked her arm in mine as we walked out to a car.

“I called in a favor from our new resident rogues,”

This night was testing me on every turn. We got in a car driven by one of the guards who I'd personally seen with Darian on several occasions.

“How do you know he won't tell?” I whispered as if he wouldn't hear us.

The guard smirked and drove away from the palace.

“Because I was stupid enough to fall for a Bell,”

Nora smiled and leaned back.

“You’re not the first fool,” she said.

“At least I know what I'm in for,”

“And we’ll have a damn good time until then,” she promised.

I sat back and felt somewhat safe knowing he wouldn't tell Darian out of fear of what Darian in turn would do to Nora.

But more than anything I was trying to control the electric pulses shooting out under my skin, the excitement was surreal and I couldn't wait for whatever it was that Nora had planned.

He stopped the car next to an empty street around the corner of a cobblestone district.

We got out, Nora threw him and wink and when he left it was just us. Us and complete silence.

“Did you take me out here to kill me?” I asked and raised a brow.

“Do you think I would've spent this much effort on my makeup for my only company to be a dead person?” She rolled her eyes and started walking.

I fell in line next to her, trying not to break my ankles in these heels but every time I passed a window and saw my reflection, I knew the pain was worth it.

Damn, I looked really good tonight.

We walked up the cobblestone district and a red neon sign lit up like the X on a map.

Nora started running but I was a bit slower, taking my time and watching the sign and the abnormally large bouncer standing guard outside.

One by one people were let in but I stopped and just stared. There was an energy emanating from in there. It was a club, the music echoed out onto the streets and everyone was dressed to impress either themselves or a potential partner. But I felt a pull, something telling me that I was exactly where I was supposed to be.

“Ready to drink your pain away?” Nora asked from over by the door.

Hell yeah.
