The Alpha's Hunt Chapter 69

I was in the dressing room and heard the chitter chatter of the customers outside. The store was packed and the sales reps were running around like crazy tending to everyone but I just grabbed my dress and skipped right in to try it.

Standing in front of the mirror in the dress, I couldn't help but be in awe of how I looked in it. I played with my hair in different styles to see which would go best.

A bun? Or maybe a braid if I make it a little thicker? Nah too much. The dress was enough on its own, the hair needed to be simple, not in the way, and just perfectly messy.

The dress showed a lot of cleavage and fell just below my butt, covering everything up but showing enough to make it sizzling.

Watching myself right now, I would call the outfit hot.

Someone knocked on the wall and I gasped, my heart jumped up in my throat and I fell against the wall.

“Yes?” My voice trembled like I’d seen a ghost.

“I saw which dress you took and just thought you might want to try it with these shoes,” the sales rep said when she stuck her head inside.

She eyed me with caution at first, seeing as I was pressed up against the wall, but then she smiled and I could tell she was waiting for me to grab the shoes so she could hurry away.

“Thank you,” I grabbed them and she disappeared.

Holy shit.

My heart was racing and my hands started shaking.

I sat down on the stool and caught my breath, wondering what the hell my problem was.

The fear was that Darian would find me here but why? Maybe he’d see the dress and know what I was planning on doing but I could fabricate a lie and get myself out of it.

I was just jumpy as hell today.

Every day for that matter.

My body responded as if I was on the run, on constant high alert, and prepared for any threat.

It was exhausting.

“Fuck it,” I said and wiped my face with the shirt I had on.

I fiddled with the shoes for a good minute before I got them on. The golden strap fell in layers around my ankle and the heels were high, the same height as the ones I cursed during the Ball but something about these heels made me excited to wear them.

Maybe it was the way the gold looked liquid on my feet or how the straps were seamlessly wrapped around my ankles and laid flawlessly against my skin which looked bronzer with the gold colors. I let my hand follow the smoothness of my skin as I stood slowly and arched my back.

The dress sparkled under the light of the lamp, the golden fabric and the glitter that made it look like hundreds of tiny diamonds that shimmered.

My brah pushed up my breasts perfectly and lifted them enough to see the plumpness but leave the rest to the imagination.

Never in my life had I ever considered myself ’hot’, but standing here right now dressed in this particular piece I envied myself- it was the weirdest feeling.

Darian should’ve chosen his cards differently because all bets are off tonight.

I don’t want to think. I don't want to care. Nora and I will go out wherever she wants to take me and we will live like there isn't a problem in the world- whatever that entails, only time will tell.

I took the dress and the shoes and put them on the desk for the cashier to ring up.

She grabbed a bag and put the shoes in a box.

“That’ll be two hundred and thirty-nine please,”

The machine beeped after it took my money and I bit my tongue to keep myself from laughing, but I just spent all the money I had on a little dress and a pair of shoes.

Some girls did that and it was the only problem they had but for me, it wasn't even a dent in the bank of problems I had to deal with.

If anything, I was looking to make new problems and I had a feeling that tonight would be perfect for just that.

“He’s here,” Trixy warned me.

I grabbed the bag and held it to my chest while I looked between the people but instead of looking through I should've been looking up. He was taller than anyone here and stood out like a tree in a desert in his white dress shirt and khakis.

His eyes burned holes into mine and they were beckoning without any words leaving his lips.

Everyone bowed their heads and some girls even batted their eyes at him. I wanted to slap them silly and tell them how lucky they were to be so far from his radar.

I zigzagged my way through the store and when I reached him, Darian pinched my chin and lifted my head before placing a featherlike peck on my cheek.

His eyes lowered to the bag and I knew he’d ask.

“Who paid for that?”

That’s not what I thought he would ask.

“I did,” I said and held the bag close.

His brows furrowed and he looked behind me- before I knew it he was gone, walking through the crowd of people until he reached the cashier.

Poor girl.

After what seemed like a calm discussion and only smiles and sunshine on the sellers part, Darian came and he held a credit card in his hands.

“Here,” he handed it to me.

“The amount you paid will be credited to this card and it’s filled with enough money to cover whatever you want to buy,”

“Why?” I asked and held the card in my hands.

We walked out of the store, Darian’s hand rested on the small of my back when he guided me to the car on the other side of the road.

Everyone stopped to gawk and admire, to those who hadn't fought or opposed him he must just seem like a regular King- though they are all well aware of his reputation.

“You’re mine to take care of, puppet. This is me doing that,” he said and opened the door for me.

We got in, one guard sat next to the driver and Darian was in the backseat with me.

I put the card away and pushed the bag under my feet to try and delay as many questions as possible.

“Aren’t you afraid I will use the money to run?”

Darian was halfway into putting his seatbelt on when he stopped and his gaze turned hard.

But then, in a way I would forever be curious about, he smiled. Somehow he could go from death glaring at you to smiling but they both meant the same thing. Darian reached his hand behind my waist and pulled me across the seats so I landed on his lap and he cupped my face.

He pointed out the window and we watched the people.

“Tell me, puppet, which kid do you find the cutest?” He asked.

Parents were dragging their pups behind them down the busy streets and others were chasing them around the playground further down by the park- whether they were exhausted or smiling and energetic, it was treasured family time.

“All of them,” I laughed.

“All of them?”

I nodded and looked at him quizzically.

“Then if you try to run, I will kill all of them and paint your path home with their blood,”
