Rebecca's gaze was so unfamiliar. My sister looked at her like she was looking at a madwoman, then threw a death notification at her and continued with red-rimmed eyes: "He's been missing for nearly three months. The bureau kept calling you, even came to your door several times. But what were you doing?"

"News of his death came long ago. I've been waiting—waiting for when you'd finally show up. But you never did. Rebecca Meyer, I truly regret letting Daniel marry you."

Seeing the grief in my sister's eyes didn't seem fake, Rebecca's face rapidly paled: "It's impossible... absolutely impossible... How could he die?"

My sister's accusations continued. Rebecca's eyes were filled with confusion and helplessness. Looking at that death notification, she murmured: "Dead? He's a cop with so much experience, and his body is so strong. How could he possibly die?"

My sister's lips curled into a mocking smile: "Ha! I don't need to joke about my brother's life with you. Whether it's an act or not, go to the police station and find out for yourself."

With that, she pushed her wheelchair forward, shoving Rebecca out the door and forcing her to leave.

Rebecca stood there for a moment to collect herself before slowly walking away.

When she arrived at the station, she only saw Marcus standing among several police officers, his expression grief-stricken.

Marcus was my brother-in-arms, someone I had fought alongside through life and death.

When he heard I had an incident in Myanmar, he immediately requested leave from the team to return.

Seeing Rebecca, his gaze was indifferent. He said to the officer beside him: "She's Captain Brooks' wife."

One of the officers, seeing everyone was present, said to Rebecca: "According to our investigation, this kidnapping was originally targeting a man named Brandon Shaw, but in the end, Captain Brooks was the one who suffered. Can you explain what happened?"

"Our investigation shows that before being captured, Captain Brooks called you ninety-nine times. You didn't answer the first calls, then you turned off your phone completely. What were you doing during that time?"

Rebecca's hands clenched tightly. I could see her trembling.
