Werewolf
Saving Tragedy Chapter 110
**Ashton's POV**
The road ahead stretched into a black abyss, the only illumination coming from the glow of our headlights cutting through the density of the night.
The thoughts of what we were about to walk into pressed heavily on my chest, but it didn't slow me down. If anything, it made my foot press harder against the gas pedal, the SUV growling in protest as it lurched forward at breakneck speed.
No one spoke for a long while. The hum of the engines and the rhythmic thud of tires against the uneven road filled the silence, but the tension in the car was thick, electric. Every man inside was wound so tight that it felt like we might all snap at any second.
We had all been in battle before, but this... this was far more personal.
I clenched the wheel until my knuckles burned, my jaw locked as my mind ran through every possibility of what we were about to find. Jacob had Sawyer, Millie, and their baby — three of the most vulnerable targets in our pack. And he hadn't taken them for the hell of it either.
He had a plan.
A sickening one.
But what exactly was it? We had to figure it out or else we would be walking in to this whole thing blind!
The thought made my blood run ice cold, my face seeming to drain itself of colour.
"That bastard even took the baby," Hunt finally muttered, breaking the silence. His voice was low, but I could hear the fury vibrating beneath it. He turned his head slightly to look at me, his sharp features hardened with barely restrained rage. "A newborn, Ashton. Not just Sawyer and Millie — but Elsie too. He could've at least let her go with one of the guards! What kind of sick fuck traps a newborn in a warzone?" Hunt growls, as I nod once to share his despise.
The muscles in my forearms flexed as I exhaled slowly through my nose, keeping my expression unreadable. I couldn't afford to let my emotions rule me or I would be at risk of making dumb decisions — at least not yet.
"Jacob doesn't care who gets caught in the crossfire," I finally said, voice steady despite the storm raging inside me. "He never did. Look at what he did to all of those other kids, he doesn't care! He's especially desperate, and desperate men do desperate things. But taking that baby? That was his biggest mistake. I plan to rip him limb from limb for this..."
Hunt let out a humorless chuckle, shaking his head as he stared out the window. "Yeah, well... if I get my hands on him too, he'll regret every second of it."
He didn't need to elaborate. I already knew what he was thinking because I was thinking the same thing. The moment we had Jacob within reach, he wouldn't be walking away from this a second time. No prison. No trials. No torture. No more fucking chances of escape.
Jacob had signed his own death warrant the moment he laid a hand on Sawyer and his family.
The convoy of vehicles behind us stretched out for miles now, headlights trailing like a river of light through the darkness as some of our other nearby teams had caught up with us. Every warrior, every tracker, every scout had been called in. The wolves who had been spread thin across the land searching for Jacob had abandoned their hunt, joining their focus to one singular mission now.
Retaliation.
Revenge.
We knew where he was now - we have him!
The allied packs had answered my calls too, their own forces gathering with ours in droves. Hundreds, then thousands, pouring into position at our meeting point. The numbers were still growing even as we spoke, warriors moving in waves toward our set rendezvous point.
Jacob had his own little fucking army hiding in those caves.
But we had one too.
A far bigger one.
A more skilled one.
I was sure of that!
And unlike Jacob's men, mine weren't a ragtag group of rebels hiding out in the shadows. My pack was trained, disciplined, battle-tested. We didn't cower in the dark. We didn't run.
We crushed.
We conquered.
And Jacob?
He was about to learn exactly what that meant once and for all!
The rock caves came in to show in the far distance, as I began to slow, knowing that it was now time to shift path. I jerked the wheel to the left, veering us off into the tree line, the SUV jolting violently as we hit uneven terrain. The others followed, headlights cutting through the thick forestry as we moved deeper into the wild, further from any trace of civilisation.
We couldn't risk staying on the main road any longer — not when we were this close. Jacob's men were smart enough to be watching for us, and the last thing I needed was them catching wind of how fucking massive our force had become before we were ready to strike.
I don't want to give them a chance to run...
The trees thickened, branches whipping against the windows as we maneuvered through the dense woodland. The air grew heavier with the scent of wolves, of sweat and adrenaline and steel.
We were close now.
Hunt leaned forward, scanning ahead as we crested a small hill. Then, through the gaps in the trees, the hidden meeting point came into view - small lanterns and torches revealing them to us.
And the sight of it made my blood ignite, my adrenaline pump.
The clearing was packed full already!
Hundreds — no, thousands — of warriors stood waiting, their stoic figures moving like shadows beneath the moonlight. More cars, more weapons, more raw muscle than I had seen gathered in one place in years. The scent of steel and silver laced gunpowder filled the air, mingling with the unmistakable presence of wolves in their true forms. Some stood as men, others shifted into hulking beasts with their eyes gleaming like fire in the dark.
The trackers who had been tailing Jacob's forces were already there, waiting for us, their faces grim but sharp with determination as the sea of men parted to let our cars pass through.
They had done their job well — sticking to the shadows, staying close enough to report every detail but never exposing themselves to any of Jacob's men.
As I pulled the SUV to a final stop, parking up beside the others, the entire force seemed to turn toward us, awaiting my next move.
I stepped out, the cold night air biting at my skin but acting as a cooling gel to my heated temper.
This was it.
The war had already begun the second Jacob had escaped from my cells.
Now?
I shut the door with a firm thud, my boots crunching against the dirt as I surveyed the army before me. Warriors stood shoulder to shoulder, their eyes glinting with the same lethal purpose that burned inside me.
Every one of them had a reason to be here. Some had lost family to Jacob's brutality. Others had suffered under his chaos, forced to pick up the pieces of what he left behind. But tonight, we weren't just avenging the past.
We were ensuring that he never had a future.
Hunt stepped out beside me, rolling his shoulders like he was preparing for a fight right here and now. He swept his gaze over the gathering before exhaling sharply. "This is already bigger than I expected."
"Good," I muttered. "He'll never see it coming - he won't think that I would've called in the allies for this either."
A few figures pushed their way to the front of the crowd, moving with authority. My trackers joined with Sawyers, some of the best men for the job. Sawyer's second-in-command was among them, his face dark with exhaustion but his posture stiff with readiness.
"Alpha Ashton," He greeted, his voice gravelly from hours of barking out orders. "It came out of nowhere, we were heavily outnumbered. I'm sorry, there was nothing we could've done!" He explains, as I shake my head and hold up a hand to stop him.
"Don't apologise for what happened. Do you think we have them outnumbered now?" I question quickly, as he glances around briefly.
"Definitely. At least from what I had saw of them. It would be hard to match this number of men..." he confirms my plan, as I nod.
"Good." I state, as the men around us slow down to a hush, as I lift my chin and overlook all of them.
"We've had eyes on the caves since you called. From what we know from our spies, Jacob's men are holed up tight — barricades, scouts posted at every possible entrance, a shit-ton of weapons too. The good news is, one of the spies caught wind of one of them saying 'we've not to sleep, we roll out to Jacob's pack in the next few hours'. We guess that they plan on taking Sawyer back to his pack, perhaps to overthrow him in front of them all. We fear that Jacob plans to sacrifice him to prove a point to his ex pack members before settling back in as the Alpha!" Sawyers second in command rants out every detail of the update he had, as I rub my chin roughly to listen.
This changes things majorly...
If Jacob managed to infiltrate his old pack, taking over and setting up his guards around the border, then it will make things harder to get to Sawyer on time!
"Who does he have working with him? Is it Moon Lust? Has that been confirmed yet?" I ask next, as he only shakes his head.
"No sir, nothing to confirm this, but it would make sense?" He agrees, as I sigh and begin to think up our next move.
We have to beat them to Sawyers pack before it's too late... if we make it there first, set up a surprise attack from the inside, get his pack members to safety, then it will give us leverage to get Sawyer, Millie and Elsie back in one piece and will avoid spilling unnecessary blood...
It's the only way!
"EVERYONE MOVE OUT! THIS IS A RACE TO SAWYERS TERRITORY BEFORE JACOB AND HIS ARMY OF RATS BEAT US THERE FIRST! WE ATTACK THEM FROM THE INSIDE, TAKE THEM BY SURPRISE! WE DON'T HAVE LONG BEFORE THEY MOVE OUT BY TRAIN!" I suddenly yell, gaining everyone's attention as the men all listen intently to my instruction.
"GO!" I yell once more, before watching them all enter into a frenzy of movement, loading up the cars and trucks, breaking in to smaller groups.
At least now we have a plan...
An advantage...
But will it be enough?
