Saving Tragedy Chapter 72

*****Ashton’s POV*****

Having cleared the compound, killing both Seraphina and Tarrick, I raced back to Six Ridge Pack to see Rose.

I wanted her out of there as quickly as possible, and after disposing of Seraphina who was the biggest threat above all else, I felt comfortable enough letting Sawyer transport her back without me whilst I cleaned the rest up.

I stayed behind, killing a sobbing Tarrick before ending a few more of their ‘followers’ if you could even call them that. They were pathetic low lives with too much time of their hands!

I had teams work to help get the children out - taking them to neighbouring packs for shelter and medical care before we can work to locate their parents or find them new homes for the those we feared had been born in to the group or who were orphans.

“Alpha you good? We are almost there…” One of my men - Josh - questions, as he speeds in the direction of Six Ridge with my breathing laboured and my leg tapping up and down uncontrollably as I felt incredibly unsettled.

“I’m fine. Just want to see my mate.” I state briskly, as he nods in understanding and presses down a little more on the gas which I appreciated.

Hunt had stayed behind at the pack with Lydia, and I was glad to have taken Sawyer with me to help protect Rose since he done a good job.

I almost vomited at thinking back to just how close we were to being too late to save Rose. I wouldn’t forgive myself if we had been.

When I walked in to see the dagger drawn above her, I fucking lost my shit there and then. Tarrick was lucky he decided not to kill her - resulting in a quicker death for him.

If he hadn’t, I would have tortured him for years on end until breaking point as punishment - piece of shit!

I squirmed slightly; seeing the entrance to Six Ridge approaching, thankful that Rose was now only a matter of minutes away.

For my own sanity, I needed to see her and squeeze her just to know that she was definitely ok…

The poor thing had been to hell and back in the past couple of days and it was all my fault, I should have been more prepared and more aware! I was foolish for even taking her with me to the ball - parading her around like that!

We eventually turned a bend, and rolled up the road leading towards the medical centre that Sawyer had informed me he would be taking her to. The Alpha and Luna here at Six Ridge had gone above and beyond to accommodate us which didn’t go unnoticed either.

Once everything and everyone had settled back down, I fully plan on rewarding everyone involved in our rescue mission greatly.

As for Jacob, a life long mentor and friend of mine, he was currently locked up in high security: being transported back to my own pack where he can wait and dread my return there.

He was the biggest disappointment in all of this… and now he has left his loyal pack without an Alpha!

But there was no time to fix any of that right now, as the vehicle pulled in to a parking bay outside of the medical building and I wasted no time on opening the door to rush out - leaving Josh behind.

I jog towards the white stone, running inside, as the nurses grow hushed at the sight of me as I approach the front desk immediately.

“Alpha! We have been waiting for you! It’s room five just that way!” The receptionist chirps out quickly and points, as I nod once and take off in that direction in search of my Rose - not wasting any more time.

Approaching the door, seeing Sawyer, Hunt and Lydia seated outside of the room - they all stand when seeing me approaching.

“Wait! Stop!” Hunt and Sawyer step in front of me, pissing me off, as they stop me from going straight through to see her.

What the fuck are they doing?!

I squint at them in frustration, as they hold their hands up and inhale air to speak...

“Listen to us first - She’s not awake… they had to put her under because she’s too weak… she had been shot in the leg and the wound got infected pretty bad Ash… but they did say that your blood might help, the nurse is already inside. The drugs they gave her fucked her up too. We didn’t want you just rushing in there blind!” Hunt explains, as Lydia sinks back down in to her seat and looks worried sick.

I glance between them, processing their words, and without response I push my way through them anyway and allow myself in to the room.

Whatever has to be done will be done in order to make her better! They can take my blood by the litres for all I care!

As I enter, my eyes dart towards Rose as she just lays there on the bed still, hooked up to a variety of different machines as the nurse stands by her bed with a clipboard taking notes and checking her stats.

“Ah! You must be the Alpha? Rose’s mate? It’s a pleasure to meet you, I am nurse Paulette.” The middle aged woman introduces herself and moves to shake my hand which I shakily return.

“What do I have to do? Give her my blood? Just do it, I’m ready!” I state with a nod, as the nurse’s eyes seem to scan over me slowly in concern.

What is the hold up?!

“I… I know that you want her to be better straight away sir… but could I politely ask you to take a shower first? There is a shower in the bathroom right here… just to keep the process as easy as possible and to avoid passing infection.” She requests, as my eyes widen and I lift out my hands to view the damage from the battle I had come from.

I was not only covered in mud but I was also covered in the blood of my victims… completely… shit!

She’s right, I couldn’t risk passing any dirt or somebody else’s blood over to Rose - that would be foolish!

“Ok, I’ll be fast, stay here!” I nod firmly, not giving her a choice as I rush in to the corner bathroom and lock the door behind me.

I quickly strip out of my current clothes, kicking them in to a pile in the corner, before rummaging through the complimentary toiletries inside a nearby basket - ensuring that I used a lot of soap to scrub my skin clean.

I stepped under the water, thoroughly washing myself down and watching the water turn murky until after a couple of soapy rinses it eventually turns back clear again.

Once I was satisfied, I stepped out, patting myself down with a towel before wrapping a hospital gown around myself before stepping back out in to the room - breathing heavily.

The nurse glanced up at me, nodding her approval, as she gestures for me to take a seat by the bed with Rose.

I look at Rose once again, my heart feeling like it was kicking me from the inside as I felt my lungs crushing at the sight of her motionless and still figure.

I can’t lose her…

I can’t lose another person I love…

“Ok so I’m just going to connect you up to her, and I’ll just keep the blood flowing through for a little while since you’re an Alpha and shouldn’t struggle with the blood loss too much. Is that all ok with you?” The nurse asks, approaching me with the equipment - wiping my arm before sticking the small needle in.

I nod and watch on, as she fumbles around with some stuff before the tube quickly fills with the thick red liquid: sending my blood flow through the tubes and directly in to Rose’s arm.

“How long will this take?” I question, my gaze fixed on Rose intensely as I watch her for any sign of movement - getting nothing yet.

“It just depends, but hopefully not too long now that you are here.” She nods, sharing her hope with a small smile as I thank her briefly and she excuses herself from the room to give me privacy.

The nurse shows me the bell that I can ring if I need anything or require for her to come back in here sooner than planned and with that, I am thankful for the moment of silence.

“Rose… you are going to be ok… I’m right here by your side!” I whisper, leaning closer to her - feeling the guilt of what happened sweep through me like a tornado.

I just need to see her awake, look into her eyes and know that it’s all over for good now.

She’s safe again…

But for now, all I can do in this moment is wait for her to wake up…
