The Killer I Know Chapter 2

Tonight, Daniel came home very late.

That's because yesterday I had challenged the police by posting a "murder announcement" on social media.

The message read:

"I am the perpetrator of the 1/27 murder case. Tomorrow at 8 PM, east entrance of Seaside Park. See you there! M"

(The first case was discovered on January 27th, hence the name "1/27 murder case.")

Five minutes after I posted it yesterday, it hit the top of the trending topics, briefly crashing the server with a 404 error.

Of course, the comments section was full of skeptics. After all, the internet allows anonymity and IP addresses can be spoofed.

"Obviously fake. Anyone could post this."

"Isn't this disturbing public order? This joke went too far."

"School vacation must have started. Someone's parents need to supervise their kid."

...

"What if this is real? Shocking!"

"This serial killer is kind of interesting."

I sat at my computer scrolling through the comments, nearly dying of laughter.

These internet users were something else.

Online spectators were having a field day while I remained silent behind the scenes.

Only the police knew this post was definitely real.

Because on the left wrist of each of my victims, I carved the letter "M."

But the police had never released any related information—only internal personnel knew about it.

The police feared copycat crimes, so they kept this detail secret.

About half an hour after I posted, I received a call from Daniel.

"Claire, there's been a new development in the 1/27 case, so I won't be coming home tonight."

"Okay, don't work too hard. I'll miss you."

"Thanks. Remember to lock the door."

"I will. Good night."

Shortly after, my doorbell rang.

It was already quite late. I opened the door.

And met my seventh "victim."
