The Killer I Know Chapter 7

The police had identified my patient as the serial killer.

However, he had disappeared—vanished inside my apartment building.

The police reviewed the surveillance footage but found no video or trace of him leaving the building. He had simply evaporated.

His name was Ethan Porter, and he was my patient.

He was consistently calm and composed.

From the first meeting, he wasn't like my other patients with highly volatile emotions. Instead, he spoke with great clarity and logic.

Through psychological therapy, I learned some interesting aspects of his past.

When he was 12 years old, his father was abusive. During one beating, his mother fought back and, right in front of him, decapitated his father.

The police took his mother away, and after investigation, she was charged with first-degree murder.

His mother was sentenced to death.

Having lost both parents, he was sent to an orphanage and stayed there until he graduated from high school.

But this incident remained his psychological trauma.

He was not only my patient but also my accomplice.

I surveyed the room and walked inside, my gaze stopping at a spot in the walk-in closet.

"Mm, Ethan should have left by now," I thought.

The reason the police couldn't find surveillance footage of Ethan leaving the building was because he truly never left.

When the officers searched my apartment, he was in the apartment across the hall.

When they searched across the hall, he moved through the connecting passage in the closet to my apartment.

Since my apartment wasn't the crime scene, the officers only looked at surface evidence.

How would those idiots ever think that the two apartments were connected?

"What's wrong, Claire?"

Daniel came to my side. "What are you looking at so intently?"

I looked at him with an exhausted expression. "Just a bit tired, I guess."

"Then get some good sleep. I need to go back to the station. Remember, don't open the door for anyone, not even delivery people."

He looked at me with determination, clearly still very concerned about me.

"Okay, I know," I replied coquettishly.

Daniel soon left again.

Just as I was about to sleep, a deep male voice came from nearby.
