The Wedding That Never Was Chapter 24
The three-hour concert left everyone satisfied.
When I returned to the dressing room, I was still smiling. Even though I was tired, I was tired willingly.
But the smile only lasted until I got there.
"Why are you here?" I looked at Adrian standing at the door.
Adrian had his jacket draped over his arm. His lips were pressed into a straight line, but his eyes clung to me with lingering affection.
He was heartbroken by my exhausted voice.
He turned sideways, revealing a gift box he had been blocking. "This is loquat syrup from my father's hometown. It's good for the throat. If you don't mind, please accept it."
As expected of Colonel Hayes. Even giving a gift sounded like an order. I thought sarcastically.
"I dare not accept it. After all, the last 'big gift' Mr. Hayes gave me wasn't very pleasant."
Adrian knew I was referring to the photos of him and Sarah. His face went pale for a moment.
"Ilara, listen to me. Sarah and I aren't what you saw..."
I interrupted him again. "Let me reiterate, Mr. Hayes. I am not interested in your affairs."
I sighed.
Since returning to the country, I seemed to sigh more and more often. And almost every time, it was because of Adrian.
I didn't want to choke on words with Adrian again in such an exhausted state after the concert.
I was truly disgusted by his lingering entanglement.
At this moment, I suddenly understood how Adrian used to feel about me. So my voice became colder.
"Whether you're engaged to Sarah or messing around with anyone else..."
"I don't care."
"I don't know what gave you the illusion that you could win me back two years after we broke up."
"Does a woman who jumped off a building for you willing to come back make you feel exceptionally charming?"
"Whatever the reason, I can tell you clearly and definitely."
"I won't get back together with you, and I won't fall in love with you again."
"Even thinking of you disgusts me, so I won't think of you again."
"No matter how little dignity I have, I won't stoop that low. I won't take expired flowers."
"Don't tell me you want to explain. After all, you never listened to my explanations."
"We aren't in a relationship where we can have a drink and chat, are we? I'm done talking. Can you let me rest now, Mr. Hayes?"
After saying it all in one breath, I realized how deep my resistance to Adrian ran.
I unhesitatingly issued an eviction order.
With every sentence I spoke, Adrian’s face grew paler.
He didn't even have time to tell me: Ilara, I picked flowers for you. The little wildflowers you used to like.
I picked them myself.
Because Leo had already walked over, holding a bunch of extremely ordinary baby's breath.
He complained to me jokingly, "I don't know which big star is having a concert here. I couldn't even buy red roses for my girlfriend; they were all bought up."
"There are only these little white flowers left. Would the big star reluctantly accept them?"
I was amused and couldn't stop laughing. I quickly took the flowers from his hand.
"How dare I blame you?"
I pulled Leo inside. The door closed in front of Adrian's eyes.
From beginning to end, neither of us looked at him once.
Adrian stood by the door, listening to the laughter from the other side, like a walking corpse.
After a long while, he finally turned and walked back the way he came.
Go quickly. Why stay here?
You've already seen her happy.
Leave quickly. You are just a trouble to her.
...
Waves of tinnitus pushed him back to his car.
