I couldn’t hear properly, my heart pounding in my ears.

"Us, what?" I heard myself say, although my voice sounded too far away.

He laughed and moved a little closer.

"I thought you'd want to have good memories of your wedding," he commented, shrugging, curving his lips into a half-sexy smile. "In the last few days, the pack has been focused on making this happen." He paused, pressing his lips together. "I'll try to be a little romantic, even though it's kind of late for that, but... will you marry me?"

He was asking me to marry him in the middle of the surprise ceremony he had planned for me? Was this really happening, or was I hallucinating?

I felt a mixture of emotions swirling inside me.

I looked around, realizing that everyone’s attention was on me. A hint of nervousness danced in my stomach.

"Yes," I answered, breathlessly, still too shocked by everything that was happening.

Fenrir extended his arm, offering me his hand. I quickly placed mine over his, intertwining our fingers.

"I think having good memories will be good for you."

I tried not to cry, to keep the tears far from my eyes so they wouldn’t ruin the light makeup I had done, but it was impossible.

"The only memories I want and will carry are by your side, Fenrir," I said. "The rest was just... the steps I took, the path I had to walk, to reach you."

He smiled and guided me to the small altar, helping me up the small steps.

Our friends were right in front of us, all of them smiling in complicity, having planned this surprise in the last few days and doing an amazing job of hiding everything from me. Alexandra, Mihaela, Andrei, and Nicoleta. I felt, not for the first time, and not the last, Anton’s absence.

And I knew it would always be this way, until our last breath.

"I don’t know how the ceremony worked in your old pack, but here it’s pretty simple. The main act is the mating, and we’re already mated." He held my hands and got closer, facing me. "I’ll pierce your finger and suck a drop of your blood, then I’ll make my vow. You’ll do the same for me. There is no object that represents our union, like humans have. The representation for us is your scent, which is intertwined with mine, marking you as mine, just as I am marked as yours."

I must have been the first bride to walk down the aisle with no idea of how the ceremony would go. But I was used to it. It wasn’t like Fenrir and I followed the typical steps a couple would usually take.

I nodded, swallowing to moisten the dryness in my throat.

He held my finger and brought it to his lips, staring at me through his dark lashes.

I couldn’t move, couldn’t do anything, just stare and lose myself in his beauty and the magnitude of the moment.

I felt his sharp fang pierce my skin, causing a slight sting. He sucked the drop of blood that appeared and ran his tongue over it, healing me.

"Savannah, member of the Dăneşti pack," he said, not referring to who I was, but who I had become since we mated. "You are my anchor, the light that guides me through the darkness, my safe haven. I promise to honor, protect, and love you for all eternity, as your husband and destined companion."

I held my breath, moved. His gaze reflected the same feelings as mine.

Alexandra stepped closer to me and stopped by my side.

I held Fenrir’s hand and brought his index finger to my lips, piercing the tip of his finger with my fang and drinking the drop of his blood that tasted of pure, ancient fire.

Alexandra brought her lips to my ear and whispered the words I was supposed to say.

"Fenrir, leader of the Dăneşti pack," I whispered, staring at him, showing through my eyes all the love I felt, which seemed to overflow within me. "You are my strength, my refuge in storms, the flame that warms my heart," I whispered the words Alexandra had said to me. "I promise to be your rock, your support, and your loyal partner for the rest of our days and beyond, as your wife and destined companion."

The wolves of the Dăneşti pack clapped and howled, lifting their faces to the sunny sky that illuminated us, blessing us, celebrating the union that had just occurred.

With a smile that could light up the entire clearing, Fenrir held my face between his hands and pulled me close, kissing me with love.

I was married.

Married to Fenrir Dăneşti, my destined partner, my companion, my husband. I couldn’t believe this was real, that what we were living was our reality, especially after everything we had been through.

I had planned my wedding with Hunter, thinking it would be the most special day of my life, the most incredible of all. I had the illusion of a romantic, passionate girl, until everything happened.

"Replacing bad memories," if he only knew that just spending the rest of my days by his side would be enough. No memory was strong enough to stop me from living fully, not if he was with me.

No ceremony could be as special as the one Fenrir had prepared. Every little detail had a meaning, everything had been done with love and dedication for the moment, planned by my companion and executed by his pack, as a welcome gift for me, an acceptance.

Not even in my wildest dreams could I plan something so magnificent.

With gratitude in my heart and tears in my eyes, I turned toward the wolves of our pack, who were celebrating our happiness.

I leaned against Fenrir’s arm, satisfied with our journey. Our scars would tell stories in the future, not as marks of pain, but of what we had overcome together.

The tears overflowed from my eyes.
