Into the Alpha’s Keep Chapter 90: 90

He was truly enormous, the largest wolf I had ever seen. Much bigger than my father's wolf, Hunter, or Caspian, who were also alpha leaders.

I petted his entire head, scratching behind his ear.

The long gray fur gleamed against the white snow. His golden eyes shimmered like headlights. The black snout sniffed the air, smelling me and letting out a purr. His enormous paws crushed the snow, marking the path he walked on.

"I think it's my turn," I murmured, stepping away from him.

Fenrir sat on his hind legs and waited, keeping his golden eyes fixed on me. His ears were alert, moving at the slightest noise, wary that there might be more invaders.

I closed my eyes and let nature take over. Warmth spread through my body; it was light at first, but soon became something too intense and hard to endure. My bones bent, twisting into different positions. The clothes I was wearing fell to the side in tatters. I fell to my knees on the ground, feeling the pain of the transformation hit me like lightning.

My hearing sharpened, my sense of smell picked up scents I hadn't noticed before, and I could even see the small insects flying through the forest.

I let out a strangled scream as my spine curled, reshaping. Everything in me hurt, every piece of skin.

I took a deep breath, my heart racing, beating erratically in my chest. And then, the pain was gone, not a trace of it remained, as if it had never existed.

I blinked and stared at my paws, examining the white and beige fur covering me completely. I lifted my head, gazing at the forest. I pranced around, running from side to side, feeling free and fulfilled.

"You’re beautiful, little wolf." Fenrir's voice echoed in my head.

Wolves only communicated when transformed and only with members of their own packs. I became a Dăneşti the moment I mated with him, without needing to go through any ritual to join, thus breaking my bond with the Twilight or Eclipse wolves.

I turned toward him, letting out a purr.

"I didn’t know I had missed transforming so much." I responded.

"It’s in our nature; we will always need or want to transform. We can’t keep that part of us caged."

I trotted around, playing with the soft, cold snow beneath my paws, like a puppy enjoying something I loved but had been forbidden to do for a long time.

The scent of eucalyptus floated around me, along with the snow and the smell of animals that had passed by earlier. I stared at the tree leaves, admiring the ice droplets that adorned them.

Fenrir rubbed against me, nudging my ribs with his head, petting me. He was much bigger than I was. I rubbed against him as well and licked his head.

"Do you know how to hunt?" he asked.

"No, I don’t know how to hunt."

"Come, I’ll hunt something for us to eat." He announced, walking ahead of me. His paws were silent, like a true predator.

"I’ve never eaten raw meat." I confessed, trying to decide if I felt comfortable with that.

"There's always a first time." He retorted, determined to feed me.

I tried to feel disgusted, but my wolf seemed hungry, almost desperate to be fed by him, as if it were a need. As strange as it seemed, since we had eaten before leaving the house, I believed it was something related to mating and heat.

He ran ahead of me, and I followed, sinking the snow with my heavy paws. The feeling of freedom embraced me, hitting me hard and giving me a sense of fullness.

I was happy; my wolf was happy.

Running alongside him felt right, and it was a special moment. We circled the trees without stopping. He jumped at me, biting my ear with sharp teeth, but not hard enough to hurt me. I threw myself to the ground, lying on my back, and licked his neck.

"I won’t catch anything if you keep distracting me like this," his voice boomed in my head.

"It’s not my fault if you’re a distracted alpha." I teased.

He licked the fur on my neck and rubbed his snout on me. I got up and followed him, trotting happily now that I was transformed.

He stopped, becoming more intense. He raised his snout and sniffed the air.

"Stay quiet, little wolf, I’ve just found our prey."

The playful mood we were in changed. Fenrir became a true predator, walking without making a sound. He hid behind the thick trunk of one of the trees and peered, staring at a deer that was a few meters away.

I sat next to him and waited, making sure not to scare the prey and make him lose the hunt. He advanced slowly, every movement calculated to perfection.

He crawled through the snow, sneaking with the posture of a born predator. His gray fur was covered in white, filled with ice crystals, and he continued hiding between trees as he got closer.

The deer seemed oblivious to us, standing still in the middle of the trees, unaware of the imminent danger. It was huge and young, with black, expressive eyes.

I sat on my hind legs, watching them through the tree I was behind, invisible to the animal.

Fenrir got close enough. He leapt into the air, throwing himself onto the animal, which, upon noticing the predator, tried to run but had its throat struck by sharp fangs before it could escape.

Fenrir growled, breaking the deer’s neck, throwing it to the ground. Its blood stained the white snow, and the metallic scent filled the air.

The animal’s eyes fixed on some random point, lifeless.

The alpha let go of the neck and went to its belly, biting the skin, opening it. He turned to me, locking his golden eyes on mine.

"Come eat, little wolf." He ordered.

Hesitant, I walked over to him, leaving a trail of paw prints on the ground, soon to be erased by the falling snow.

I stared at the animal’s mangled body, its vital organs spilling from its abdomen. The snow around it was stained red, like a grotesque, animalistic painting. I sniffed, but instead of feeling disgusted, I felt desire.

Fenrir, noticing my hesitation, placed his paw on the animal, keeping it down, and sank his teeth into the meat, ripping a piece from the abdomen and throwing it in front of me, pointing with his snout.

"Eat!" He commanded before sinking his fangs into another piece and chewing, swallowing with satisfaction.

I ignored my prejudice and took the piece he threw to me, chewing and swallowing. To my surprise, the taste was incredible, just as good, or maybe even better than cooked meat. I felt the blood flowing down my throat, and the raw meat was tender, falling apart in my mouth. My stomach accepted every piece very well.

"Hum... I like this." I murmured.

"I don’t know how you managed to go so long without eating raw meat. Sooner or later, your wolf would need it; it’s almost like a necessity." He said, chewing the deer’s entrails.

He selected the best pieces for me, tossing them in front of me for me to eat. Fenrir was determined to make me eat, just as he had said.

"Are we going to do this every time I anticipate heat?" I asked.
