Into the Alpha’s Keep Chapter 130: Epilogue Part 2
"He is a heartless monster."
"Please, stop crying, it breaks my heart," he pleaded.
I pulled away and stared at him, sniffing. "Can't you do anything?"
He shook his head. "If I take Selena, it will mean war between Jax and me. And I’m not getting into any war right now, not with him, and certainly not with my pregnant mate. This is a high-risk situation, and I’m not going to take that chance."
I understood Fenrir's fear, the fear of doing something that could harm me and the pup. He almost lost me. He almost lost us, because of Hunter. But knowing that Selena was so close to me, and I couldn’t see her, was tearing me apart. For months, all I had done was try to build a safe home for both of us. And if that wasn’t possible, at least let her be free and happy. Finding out that she was trapped in a damn cage, by a worthless alpha, was not part of my plans for her.
"When can I see her?" I asked, blinking and more tears rolling down my face.
He rubbed his tongue over his lips. "I'll stay in contact with Jax and try to convince him to agree to this meeting," he warned. "I’m just as surprised as you. I spent the last few months looking for Selena, without finding a single trace of her. I never imagined she’d be in Vanóia, right next to us."
"This wasn’t the life I planned for her. I kept silent about her existence because I wanted her to be free, not a prisoner."
He nodded and kissed my forehead. "At least now we know where she is. Your sister is alive, she’s well, and she’s close by. Soon, you two will be reunited."
"Yes, but that doesn’t make things better."
"It doesn’t, but it’s something."
I rested my head on his shoulder and ran my hands down his back, curling up against his warm chest. Fenrir was right, at least I knew where she was. It wasn’t the darkness I’d been in for months, isolated from the truth about her. My mate trusted Jax, and I trusted him.
"Shall we go home?" he whispered after a moment of silence. "I hunted a hare earlier; we can prepare dinner together."
I nodded, in love with the routine we had created, which belonged to both of us. "I like hare meat."
"I know," he said, kissing the top of my head. "That’s why I ran to the other side of the forest just to hunt one for you."
My wolf purred in my chest. "Hmm... I’m already salivating."
He laughed, his chest shaking beneath me. "My heart is all yours, little wolf. Pleasing you is the great motto of my life."
"And mine is yours, Dăneşti leader." I sighed, without lifting my head from his broad shoulder, nestled, ready to be carried home.
He liked hunting for me, while I liked cooking for him. Sometimes, he’d sit next to me while I watched television, reading one of my novels. Even if we were doing different things, we were together, enjoying each other’s company.
The story about Selena still bothered me, and it would continue to disturb my thoughts until I could see her and be sure, with my own eyes, that she was okay. But now, at least I knew where she was, and soon we’d finally be together.
There would always be some problem, some confrontation, something to deal with. But, together, we would face any challenge the future threw at us, side by side, as predestined mates.
