Dominic arrived at the clinic at nine in the evening.

The heavy snow had caused a traffic jam.

The honking on the overpass had annoyed him the entire way.

The night was heavy, and the streets were deserted.

He took the elevator up to the eleventh floor.

Because he didn't want too many people to know about the abortion, he went to a close friend.

Alex, who was on the night shift, was surprised to see him. "You mean Luca? He left at five."

"He came?" Dominic's expression relaxed slightly. The knot of anger in his chest loosened a bit.

He thought, At least he's obedient.

"Is the child gone?" Dominic asked.

"It's done. I did it myself. The whole thing took less than half an hour."

Just fifteen minutes.

He lit a cigarette and looked at the silent night outside. Rarely for him, he asked, "Did he take anesthesia?"

Alex shook his head. "No. He said general anesthesia takes too long. He just wanted a local. But he really has a high tolerance. He didn't make a sound the whole time. After it was done, he even had the strength to thank me."

Dominic hummed a faint "Mmh."

Luca had always been good at enduring.
