The Apocalypse:A Survivor's Sarcastic Guide Chapter 12
Less than a minute after I went to the basement, Katie sneakily opened the window.
She was actually standing outside chatting with the drone!
"Huh? You really won't consider recruiting me?"
"You're not quite suitable."
"Why? Even though I can't shoot, I can help you~ cook and stuff."
"No need. We'll patrol other areas first!"
"Hey~ Don't go! My friend's in the basement. It's just me here. Even you're leaving—what do I do?"
The drone didn't want to continue chatting with her. She forcibly hugged it, not letting go.
"Miss, we need to search for other survivors. Please don't obstruct us."
"Am I not a survivor?"
"Uh, you are, but you're safe now. We need to rescue others."
"Safe now doesn't mean safe later. How can you do this?"
"So... what do you want?"
"Mm? Send someone to protect me?"
"Uh... okay then..."
The drone was silent for ages. Finally, after confirming she wouldn't release it unless they agreed, they compromised.
Katie held her phone triumphantly. "I recorded it all. If you go back on your word, I'll post the video online."
Me: "..."
Crazy? It's the apocalypse—who cares where you post it?
Just when I thought the armed unit was just placating Katie, the doorbell rang outside.
"Jesus!"
If I hadn't rushed out, Katie would have opened the door.
"Are you fucking sick?"
"Why did you come out?"
Seeing me, Katie's eyes lit up.
I was so angry blood rushed to my head. I directly blocked her.
"What are you doing? The armed unit sent someone to protect us."
She even got upset.
When I spoke again, my tone was extremely cold. "Katie Zhang, I don't need anyone's protection. This is my last warning—if you drag me down again, seriously, I'll throw you out right now."
Maybe I was too fierce. This time she actually didn't dare talk back.
The doorbell kept ringing outside.
Just as I was about to tell the person outside to leave, a low growl came from not far away.
Damn it!
Zombies were coming.
"No, if we don't open the door he'll die! I'm opening it!"
"You stop!"
My breathing hitched. Katie wouldn't listen at all—like an arrow released from a bow, she rushed down.
She went downstairs fast, reaching the door in a flash.
Opening the door, seeing corpses in the yard, she froze.
"Katie Zhang, you're crazy! Come back!"
I didn't dare shout loudly. Angry yet having to keep my voice down, I was grinding my teeth.
"Tap tap tap"
Urgent knocking came from outside. The person must have noticed zombies coming toward him.
I stood on the balcony, looking at nearby zombies, suddenly remembering skewered meat still in the fridge.
Hope it's not too late!
I turned to get remaining bamboo skewers, aiming at that zombie.
Whoosh—
Maybe too rushed. I couldn't aim well. The skewer hit a tree.
"It's okay, try again!"
I took a deep breath, pulling myself together.
Whoosh—
Shot crooked again!
I was both anxious and angry.
Katie had already touched the first door lock. Two more locks to go!
The zombie was approaching!
Furious, I grabbed a handful of skewers, firing three at once. Because I lacked strength, skewers hit the zombie's arm then fell to the ground.
Fresh meat smell wafted out. The zombie really stopped, slowly crawling down, sniffing the ground like a puppy for skewers.
Good chance!
"Quick!"
I shouted loudly. At the same time, the last lock opened.
But...
