The Banished Shy Luna Chapter 190

6 min 1 views

The front door slammed shut behind Douglas and Tyson as they escorted Darin outside—one on each side of him like twin executioners. Even injured, Tyson’s dominance rolled through the house like thunder. Darin didn’t dare look back.

The moment the door closed, the house fell into a strange, aching quiet.

Upstairs, the babies had erupted into a chorus of cries—three different pitches, somehow perfectly timed. Talon shot me a look and nodded once before sprinting up the stairs. The twins hurried after him, already pulling bottles from the warmer and arguing with each other about which blanket belonged to which baby.

That left me standing in the middle of the living room… with Toren.

Just him.

Just me.

Everything else blurred out.

The weight of the last twenty-four hours pressed down on me all at once.

The Elders were dead.

The council was finished.

The world outside was already shifting into chaos.

And somehow, in the middle of all of it, we’d brought three children into the world.

I turned toward him slowly, my body still aching, still exhausted, still overwhelmed by everything that had happened in the last 48 hours.

“Toren…” my voice cracked before I could stop it. “What’s next?”

He looked at me for a long moment—really looked—like he was memorizing me, like he needed to anchor himself before his answer could leave his mouth.

Then he stepped toward me, cupping my face in both hands with that gentle strength only he possessed.

“What’s next,” he murmured, brushing his forehead to mine, “is surviving.”

My pulse skipped.

His lips touched mine—soft, lingering, a promise and a warning in one breath.

When he pulled back, his voice dropped even lower. “Mason was right. Killing those last two council members will cause a shift. The power vacuum will call to every wolf with ambition or greed.”

He rested a hand on my stomach—the same stomach that had held our three miracles hours ago.

“They will come for you,” he said. “Because they fear you. Because they want to control you. Because they think you're the prize at the end of a bloody path.”

My breath trembled.

“But they’ll learn,” Toren growled. “You’re not the prize. You’re the storm.”

His thumb stroked my cheek.

“The next step is getting the full pack here. All of them. Hidden. Protected. And then…” His jaw tightened. “We prepare for war, starlight. Because they won’t stop. They’ll try everything to get to you.”

A shiver ran down my spine—but not fear.

Determination.

“They won’t win,” I whispered.

“No,” he agreed. “Not while I still breathe.”

Before I could respond, the door opened behind us.

Douglas walked in first, brushing snow off his arms, irritation written across his face. “Well, that was fun. Tyson nearly punched the guy through a tree just for breathing too loud.”

Tyson followed behind him, shutting the door with his boot. “In my defense, he was breathing too loud.”

Douglas smirked. “He’s mated. He just had three children. His patience is gone. Permanently.”

Tyson shot him a look. “You say that like you had any patience to begin with.”

I rolled my eyes. “Both of you, shut up. The babies are crying.”

Tyson immediately straightened, paternal instinct kicking in, and hurried upstairs.

Douglas turned to follow but paused, glancing at me. “You good?”

I nodded. “As good as I can be.”

“Okay,” he said, squeezing my shoulder once before disappearing up the stairs.

Which left just Toren and me again.

He leaned down, kissed me slow and soft, then pulled away just far enough to look into my eyes.

“We’re going to build something new,” he whispered. “Something safe. Something ours.”

“A home,” I said softly.

He smiled.

“A home.”

Upstairs, I heard Talon curse, Tyson laugh, and a baby squeal. My heart fluttered with something warm—tender—terrifying in the best way.

Then footsteps thundered down the stairs, and Marianne appeared first, breathless, holding a small bundle.

Tate.

She handed him to me immediately.

“He wouldn’t settle until he smelled you,” she panted, hands on her hips. “I hate him, actually.”

I choked on a laugh. “You do not.”

“She’s lying,” Shyanne yelled from the stairs. “She loves him more than us.”

“I do!” Marianne yelled back. “And I’m mad about it!”

I cradled Tate close, brushing a kiss onto his forehead. He melted into me instantly, going quiet with a soft little sigh.

My heart nearly burst.

Tyson appeared next holding Thea, her tiny hands curled into fists.

Before I could answer, Tate’s wail echoed down the staircase—sharp, angry, demanding.

Marianne stumbled into view, hair wild, shirt covered in formula, looking like she was one scream away from committing homicide.

“Kira,” she rasped, “your son… hates me.”

Tate screamed louder, thrashing in her arms.

“I swear to the goddess,” she said, eyes narrowing at him, “he knows I’m tired. He senses weakness.”

Despite everything, I laughed—just a little.

“Come here,” I said softly.

She handed me Tate like he was a bomb about to explode.

The second his little body pressed against me, he quieted. Instantly. Completely.

Marianne threw her hands up. “Nope. I quit. Fire me. I’m done.”

Tyson snorted so hard he had to turn away to hide it.

I kissed Tate’s tiny forehead, smiling as he snuggled into me, his little fingers clinging to my shirt like I was his entire world.

“Traitor,” I whispered affectionately.

Toren stepped beside me, brushing a hand against Tate’s back. “He’s obsessed with you already.”

Footsteps again—Talon this time, carrying Thatcher, who was only half-awake and blinking slowly. Shyanne followed, holding Thea, whose bright eyes scanned the room with eerie intelligence for someone not even a day old.

My breath halted.

Thea’s eyes—deep, shining, ancient and new all at once—locked onto mine.

There it was again.

That spark.

That same spark the Moon Goddess had in her gaze.

And she didn’t blink. Not once.

“She’s… something else,” Shyanne whispered, awed despite her exhaustion.

Talon moved closer. “She’s going to be powerful.”

“She already is,” I murmured.

Tyson nodded. “She looked right at me earlier and I swear she judged me.”

“She did,” Douglas said flatly.

“Shut up, Douglas,” Tyson muttered.

I tore my eyes from our daughter and looked at all of them—my mates, my friends, my strange little mismatched family. The people who had survived hell with me.

“We’re going to be okay,” I said quietly.

Everyone fell silent.

I held Tate closer, brushing a thumb over the soft curve of his cheek.

“Our future,” I whispered, “is in their hands now.”

Tyson leaned forward, kissing the top of Thea’s head. “Then the future’s about to be badass.”

Talon smirked. “Scary as hell, but badass.”

Toren kissed my temple again. “And protected. Always.”

My heart swelled until it hurt.

I looked down at Tate.

At Thatcher.

At Thea.

At the people I would burn the world for.

And when I lifted my head again—my voice was steady. Clear. Unshakeable.

“This is our home.”

Everyone in the room stilled.

Toren closed his eyes briefly, like the words were a blessing.

Tyson grinned, wide and fierce.

Talon let out a low, satisfied growl.

Douglas nodded once, solemn.

Shyanne wiped her eyes.

Marianne whispered, “Finally.”

I repeated it, louder:

“This is our home. And anyone who tries to take it—anyone who threatens us—will meet the same fate as the Council.”

The lights flickered.

The air thickened.

My power pulsed through the room in a wave that made the hairs on everyone’s arms rise.

Toren brushed his lips to my ear.

“Starlight,” he murmured with a smile, “welcome home.”
