When Love Becomes Past Tense Chapter 11
Today was technically my first real date with Roman.
Before this, I kept pestering him until I found out how he fell for me.
It was actually a cliché case of love at first sight.
I never thought something like that would happen to me.
Because I already had a boyfriend—his best friend—he could only hide it in his heart.
He couldn't stand Sienna mocking me behind my back, couldn't accept that I was being kept in the dark, so he warned me. And I almost mistook him for a troublemaker.
Thank god. Thank god I didn't miss him.
However, this first date didn't go smoothly.
Just as the mood was getting good, my phone rang.
"Ignore it."
But the ringing was persistent.
Worried it might be an emergency, I answered apologetically.
The voice on the other end was somewhat familiar.
It sounded like that trust fund kid from the dinner party, Cody.
"Hey, is this Hazel Vance?"
"You need to come see Caleb. If you don't come, I'm afraid he's going to drink himself to death. Bottle after bottle of pure vodka. He's had dozens."
His voice was suppressed, like he was holding back anger.
Then I heard Caleb’s drunken voice.
"I told you, don't bother her. She doesn't want to see me. Stay out of it!"
Cody seemed to snap.
"Caleb, I don't get it! She's the one who cheated, hooking up with Roman behind your back! Why are you protecting her! A woman like that... if it were me, I would have ruined her already!"
The noisy club music in the background stopped abruptly.
Dead silence.
Followed by the sound of smashing glass.
And the sounds of a fistfight.
