When Love Becomes Past Tense Chapter 14
If I remembered correctly, the Sterling Group went bankrupt when I was four months pregnant.
It was fully acquired by Roman.
That day, Roman had gone to visit my father alone.
I learned later that he went to tell my dad he had kept his promise: he made everyone pay.
I hadn't seen Caleb throughout my entire pregnancy.
I didn't expect to see him at the hospital today.
My sense of smell was sensitive after giving birth, and I could smell the heavy scent of alcohol on the man at the door.
When he tried to step inside, I stopped him instantly.
"Don't come in!"
"You smell like booze. It'll affect the baby."
Caleb retracted the foot he had stepped forward.
His voice was rough and hoarse.
"Sorry. I didn't notice."
I didn't look at him again.
When I looked up, he was gone.
During my recovery, something else happened.
Sienna Blake somehow found my room number. She came in and kneeled immediately.
"I know I wronged you, but I really have no other choice."
"Can you please tell Roman to stop targeting me... I really can't pay the breach of contract fees anymore. And a few days ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. All my old friends have blocked me. Caleb says I deserve it and won't help. I really have nowhere to go. Please..."
She wept bitterly, looking genuinely miserable.
But I just asked her quietly.
"Miss Blake, why didn't you go directly to Roman?"
"Because you know he wouldn't be moved by your tears."
"So you came to find me."
"But do I look like a saint to you?"
Sienna froze.
She couldn't say a word. Finally, she left in despair.
Those two never appeared in my life again.
Years later, an old friend mentioned them. I learned they were both gone.
One from late-stage stomach cancer caused by alcoholism, the other from untreated breast cancer due to poverty.
I laughed it off.
Just dust in the wind.
Who cares?
