When Love Becomes Past Tense Chapter 5
"Roman Pierce! Are you out of your damn mind?!"
Caleb was furious, but he couldn't break free.
Led by Cody, a few guys tried to intervene. The moment Cody got close, Roman backhanded him with another punch.
Sienna slumped in her chair, terrified to move, tears welling in her eyes.
"Roman..."
Roman cut her off instantly.
"Shut up."
"I don't have a manipulative bitch for a sister."
Caleb swung a fist, but Roman dodged it easily.
"How dare you talk to Sienna like that!"
Sienna was too scared to speak again.
Because of the angle, I could see his face now. I watched the coldness in Roman’s eyes deepen.
Suddenly, I felt an urge to comfort him.
So, I put down the iPad, muted it, and called his phone.
A familiar ringtone rang out in the video.
Roman released Caleb almost instantly. His expression softened the moment he answered.
His deep, magnetic voice came through the receiver.
"Hey. just dealing with something outside. Can't sleep? I'll be home soon. Do you want me to stay on the line and tell you a story?"
The gentle tone was completely different from the man who had just confronted the room.
My nose stung.
This was probably the first person since my father to defend me like this.
I suddenly remembered calling Caleb when I had conflicts with colleagues, hoping for comfort.
But he was always impatient: "Why does everyone always give you trouble? Maybe you should reflect on yourself first. I'm busy, don't waste my time with this whining. Bye."
The difference between people could be so vast.
When I spoke again, my voice was a little choked. I gave a soft "Mm."
"Come back soon."
"I... I miss you."
I watched Roman’s fingers curl into a fist on the screen, his breath hitching.
His hidden excitement transmitted right through to me.
"Okay. I'm coming home right now."
Roman turned to leave. Caleb muttered something I couldn't catch, then suddenly rushed over.
"Roman, wait! Who are you talking to?"
