When Love Becomes Past Tense Chapter 3
Honestly, calling Roman was a desperate move.
We weren't exactly close.
He had just warned me many times not to let Caleb play me for a fool.
He told me Caleb’s relationship with his childhood sweetheart, Sienna, wasn't innocent, and his motives for being with me were even less so.
At the time, I thought he was trying to drive a wedge between us, so I tried to stay away from him.
I never thought every word he said was true.
And I certainly never expected him to go this far for me.
As for him becoming enemies with Caleb, I never thought that would actually happen.
I assumed it was just talk. Their families were close, they had business ties; burning bridges would be messy.
But I was already incredibly grateful to him.
My father passed away. He went peacefully, with a smile on his face.
In the days that followed, Roman never left my side, helping me handle my father’s funeral arrangements.
Everyone said I had found a good man.
Only I knew that the person who should have been here was Caleb, the man I dated for three years.
According to the texts Sienna sent, he was currently drowning in her comfort.
Aside from that one hung-up call that night, he never contacted me again.
I didn't want anything to do with him either, so I blocked him everywhere.
Roman and I were legally married, living in the same apartment.
He asked if I wanted to move to his penthouse in Manhattan, but I just wanted to stay home.
He did his best to accompany me, to comfort me. When I couldn't sleep at night, he would sit properly by the bed and talk to me until I drifted off.
His voice was truly beautiful. After my father died, my insomnia made me increasingly dependent on the sound of it.
And he never refused.
But today, he came home late.
As I tossed and turned in bed, I suddenly received a video call request from Sienna Blake.
For some reason, I accepted it.
