Alpha Aidan's Rejection Chapter 111
TARA
"So you have feelings for Aidan?" I voiced out my last thought, still in disbelief that Kayla's reason for all her actions, or at least those from the last few months, were because of how she felt towards Aidan.
"Call it what you want," she said, eyes cold and void of any emotions, causing me to doubt even more. "But now you know. Aidan provided the numerous things I wanted and needed, he was a present figure to my child, even if not as a father, and all that changed…"
"Not because of me," I cut her off with a single shake of my head, recalling everything Aidan told me about their marriage of convenience.
Seemed like it was more than just convenience to Kayla.
"I know," she gritted out. "But you coming back meant that my chances of fixing it all vanished into thin air."
I shook my head again, sorry for only Kayla's daughter who Aidan said wasn't anything like her mother. "I'm sorry, Kayla, but I cannot help you with that problem. Maybe your ship has sailed," I said, and the Kayla I knew returned.
A slow, mean, cackle expelled from her lips, head tipping back as she laughed at my words. "Honey," she said, her lips curled up in a crooked sneer. "I just thought it would only be courtesy for me to let you know just how much Aidan's presence means to me, not so that you can give me advice," she said, eyeing me from head down.
"So what do I do with your information, Kayla?" I asked, eyeing her right back, and she shrugged.
"That's your business. But know this. I won't stop till I have what I lost from Aidan being in my life. Good day to you, Tara, and to that sweet pea of yours, Nadia."
My hackles shot up immediately, and I squared my shoulder in defense, eyes flaring with resentment, but Kayla only hummed, waving her fingers in a fluid motion as she turned her back to me and disappeared from my line of sight.
Minutes later, I hadn't stopped fuming, and I hadn't been able to wrap my head around what Kayla's past looked like either.
I felt a whirlwind of emotions riding me, none that lasted long enough for me to define her situation completely, and with that, once again, my shopping run had been ruined by Kayla's presence.
Wrapping up at the store quickly, I flagged down a ride that took me straight home where the event with Kayla dulled to the back of my mind once I took a cold shower. I closed my eyes, losing myself as I let the water run down my back, and only a few minutes in, I heard the door to the bathroom open, before Aidan's bulk stepped inside, clothed in slacks, a white shirt with the sleeves folded to only reveal his forearms.
I sighed in exhaustion. It felt like seeing Aidan brought out the weakness in me that I tried hard to mask, even with myself.
"I did not know that you were around. Thought you were at the pack house," I muttered, drinking the man in.
Aidan's bathroom was large and could as well fit into my room back home, so there was enough space between us. He settled down on a small stool by the tub, watching me shower with hooded eyes, and I didn't want to think about how hot it was showering with Aidan mere feet from me, clothed, but I could only do so much.
"I later decided to work from the office here," he said in response to my last statement, and I nodded. "Did you have a stress free afternoon? You look like you could use some relaxing," Aidan murmured, and I preened under his gaze.
I couldn't hold back on telling him about all that has been happening with Kayla here, and even if I didn't think this was the time, I still spoke.
"My afternoon was…interesting, you could say," I started.
Aidan's legs widened apart, each elbow coming to prop on his thighs, allowing me to see the evident bulge beneath his pants, and I swallowed. He leaned in, resting his chin on clenched fists, urging me to speak.
"I went out to get some groceries for the house, and I ran into Kayla," I said quietly, running a hand down my face like that would stop the water from pouring down more. "Actually, I think she may have stalked me…" Aidan sat up, eyes drawing together as a disapproving growl rumbled in his chest, and I fought the urge to chuckle. "No need to get all Alpha-y right now. She only wanted to talk."
"And you shouldn't trust a word that comes out of her mouth," Aidan followed up with immediately.
"I took it all with a pinch of salt, but still. I didn't want to keep it from you anymore."
"Anymore?" Aidan repeated with a raised brow.
I sighed. "She came to us the day me and Jenna went out together, and I've run into her a couple of times too. She seems intent on getting you back."
Aidan chuckled incredulously, shaking his head.
Was I missing something?
"Her selfishness has got her talking," he said when he was done, returning to his initial chin propped on the fists position.
Aidan kept talking, and I'd completely forgotten about the freezing water I was under.
"You should have told me when she first accosted you, but that doesn't matter. I do not trust that woman with a strand of hair on my head, so I'm going to get her out of this pack, even if it means I have to throw her out," Aidan said, leaving no room for me to argue. "Take your mind off her, okay?"
I still didn't get some things, but that was already enough conversation about a thorny subject, so I easily dropped it.
"Okay," I replied, nodding once and turning to put off the shower.
At the same time, Aidan stood, crossing the room to grab me a towel. Aidan was definitely aroused right now, so was I, and I itched to do something about that.
Wrapping the towel around me, his blown out eyes held mine.
"Anything else?"
Aidan's voice was thickly loaded with heat, but I forced myself to think past that for a short second as I voiced out the other thing that had been on my mind a lot lately.
"How is the cure coming along?"
