Alpha Aidan's Rejection Chapter 93
TARA
I couldn't hide my apprehension when Aidan said he had something else to say.
What was it?
My mind ran in a million different directions, and my anxiety was reflected in my voice when I inquired. "What is it?"
Aidan didn't respond immediately, sending my mind into more spiral rotations. Instead, he motioned around us, saying. "It's dark. The papers about what I want to show you are also in the car, so should we get Nadia, and I drop you off when we finish?"
I looked around, shocked that I hadn't even noticed how dark it had become. Aidan didn't seem to be panicking too much about what he wanted to say…or maybe he was just better at handling his emotions than me, but I could calm down a bit.
"Sure. Let's do that," I nodded, getting up on wobbly my feet.
Within minutes, Aidan had said hurried goodbyes to some familiar faces, Nadia also said bye to the new friends she made just now, and we were all seated inside Aidan's car.
My heart was still racing, so I turned my attention to Nadia instead.
"Did you have a nice time, Nadia?"
She nodded, smiling widely, switching gazes in between me and Aidan. "I had fun. I saw something too that I liked."
"Really?" I asked, briefly staring at Aidan before looking back at Nadia. "What was that?"
Nadia's two small hands came up to her face, each pointer finger touching the other, gesturing between me and Aidan repeatedly. "I saw the two of you kissing on the bench," Nadia said, laughing to herself, and in a second, she was mimicking smooching sounds with pursed lips. "Kissing kissing kissing," she sang, and I froze halfway.
I totally forgot that we were in public and that Nadia was a few meters away from us back there. I was so caught up in the moment that I couldn't keep my lips from Aidan anymore.
Well, on the bright side, Nadia catching her parents kissing didn't scar her. ‘At least not yet,' I thought to myself. It was crazy that my subconscious already pictured me and Aidan kissing multiple times in front of Nadia, but I quickly cleared my throat to chase the thought.
My eyes found Aidan who was just smiling sheepishly at Nadia's words, and I found myself chuckling lightly in about a second.
"We'll get you home in a minute, Nadia, okay?" Aidan directed at Nadia, and she shrugged.
"Okay."
The car ignition was already on, and Aidan had turned on the car heater, but he didn't move to drive off.
"One second," he said to me this time, then he stretched to the back of the car where Nadia was, to grab his briefcase. This move brought him closer to me, and my lungs were instantly flooded with that unique scent of him that always drove me heady. His ripped muscles were also in my direct line of sight, and it was by sheer self-control that I didn't reach for a bite.
When I felt my lady parts crooning in approval, I shook the thought off my mind immediately. Didn't want anyone smelling a horny Tara.
Aidan was back in his seat with two more papers, and as he handed them to me with the third one which he had been with since our conversation on the bench, my arousal resided, and panic resumed.
"This is everything," he said, and my head snapped up to his in time to catch his Adam's apple bobbing in a thick gulp.
Maybe he wasn't so calm after all.
I didn't try to read what any of the papers said as I handed them back to him because I was choosing to trust Aidan instead of planting a seed of doubt between us just because I wanted to satisfy my curiosity.
"I trust that you'll tell me everything just like you have today. I'll believe whatever comes out of your mouth," I said with a soft smile on my face.
Even though I knew that I was giving him an opportunity to be dishonest if that was the easier way, I didn't care. Aidan was had already given me a chance to see everything for myself, so I chose to hear it from him instead.
Aidan's brows creased with confusion, but his features soon relaxed to that of understanding. He then nodded. "Fine." He put the papers away.
"I bought a diner at Attica Pack, and I-I registered Nadia at a new school in Attica too."
My smile dropped.
"You did what?"
"It was because of what happened with the StoneWolves," Aidan chipped in fast, explaining before I could interpret his words. I told myself to calm down as he explained further. "The incident where Nadia almost went missing messed with my head. I thought I lost you when I saw you covered in your blood when he attacked you, and I knew that…I thought I knew that Attica Pack would be safer for you both because I could guarantee your safety."
I nodded, remembering that stormy day when Aidan had rushed back from the airport to help me find Nadia, only to see me sandwiched under a mad StoneWolf.
Aidan went on. "But then, I did a lot of deep thinking, and I knew that I needed to let you choose to return on your own terms. And finding out today what you went through in your own home pack, I know that what I should aim for is not getting you to a safe place. It's keeping you safe wherever you are," Aidan said. "I'm sorry I did this without your knowledge, but I guess it made me see the picture of you two moving to be with me in Attica Pack. I called it all off, and I won't ask you to come with me until you're ready…that is if you will ever be."
I smiled, not surprised that I wasn't mad at Aidan for this. Aidan, on the other hand, looked tense, so I thought to lighten the situation.
"So not even a small selfish part of you wanted us there for yourself? Hmm? Not even a teeny tiny part?"
Aidan was mute for half a second before a strained laugh slipped past his lips as he breathed, and it sounded like he had been holding it in.
"Christ," he shook his head in exasperation. "Yes, Tara. A part of me also thought about how perfect my life would finally be if we all lived there together."
We laughed it off, and when silence returned, I held his eyes.
"Thank you for sharing today with me. I know it wasn't easy."
"It wasn't easy for you either," Aidan said, referencing what I spoke about earlier.
For the first time in ages, I felt like I'd been pulled out from under a rock that fell on me, crushing me painfully. The weight of my pain from back home, as well as that of the roughness surrounding our journey together, finally felt non-existent.
"But something I won't be able to give up is that comment from earlier where you said you loved me," Aidan said, inhaling a sharp breath dramatically.
I didn't miss the way the tension that had been choking us vanished into thin air. I played dumb. "I said that?"
"Oh, yes," Aidan said. "Please check the record," he pointed into thin air, and I burst out laughing.
"Alright, fine! The record wins. I do, okay? I love you. Always have, and I always will," I said, staring into his beautiful eyes as I did.
Colors swirled in said eyes as Aidan studied me, and the look became so intense that I folded under his watchful gaze.
"I love you, Tara. Always have…" he paused, reaching out to cup my cheeks in a palm, and sending electric currents through my skin. "And I always will."
I blinked twice, chuckling lightly as I broke the intense eye contact. "This is the point where she says we should kiss," I said, recalling that Nadia was in the car with us.
"Her breathing evened out minutes ago," Aidan said without turning, and my head turned to find Nadia's head resting on Aidan's briefcase, realizing that Aidan did pay attention to a lot of things. "But I think we should lock that kiss in though, don't you? Wouldn't want to disappoint our baby even in unconsciousness."
"I can do that," I said, holding back my laughter with a wide-ass smile.
The world disappeared as Aidan's lips claimed mine, urgently this time, and I let my eyelids drop, moaning into the kiss. His tongue swept over my bottom lip, teasing me only for a second before he went back to consuming me, and lighting every surface of my skin aflame.
A strong hand found my nape, caressing every sensitive cell there as Aidan pushed my hair to the side to expose my neck. Every touch sent my body haywire, and I went even more crazy when Aidan wrapped his palm around my neck from the front in a possessive hold that almost cut off my breath.
Knowing that it was only a matter of time before my uncontrollable moans and cries broke free, I took his lips for one last second, lingering to savor his taste, and then we broke the kiss.
When mine and Aidan's eyes met again, I almost couldn't recognize his darkly blown-out ones. I was sure mine looked similar with need, and I didn't mind that, even if this wasn't the place or time.
"Let's go home," Aidan said, and I nodded.
Home.
