Apocalypse Space:Second Chance Chapter 8
On the third day of the apocalypse, we'd consumed more than half the snacks in our bags.
Today, we were preparing to go out and kill zombies.
Over the past two days, there had been many tragic scenes downstairs. Jenna wasn't as scared as before.
But she still resisted killing zombies.
"Rain, it's so scary outside. Do we really have to go out and kill zombies?"
I nodded without hesitation. "Yeah, we can't just keep hiding. While we still have supplies, it's good to get some practice."
"But Rain, this is the apocalypse. Aren't you scared at all?"
Scared? Of course I was scared. But what good did fear do?
Having lived through the apocalypse, I knew all too well how terrifying zombies were.
And there was only one way to overcome fear—face it head-on.
We couldn't just sit and wait for death. Otherwise, when the zombie horde came, we'd only be able to wait to die!
"Jenna, I'll take the lead. You just stay behind me and finish them off."
I took a long-handled axe from my space and gave it to Jenna, while I took an iron hammer.
These were tools I'd specifically bought from the hardware store owner.
There weren't many zombies in the hallway—just a few.
The nearest zombie was four or five meters away.
She was currently facing away from us, hunched over, walking forward.
I slowly approached her and swung the hammer hard at her.
Because my strength was too weak, I didn't kill her in one blow. The zombie staggered and lunged toward me.
Getting closer and closer, only three meters away.
I prepared my second strike.
"Ah... dare to bully my Rain? I'm not done with you!" Jenna, who'd been spacing out, reacted quickly and went at the zombie with a flurry of strikes.
The zombie fell, her head chopped to pieces.
Black blood gushed out, splattering the walls and floor everywhere.
I was quite surprised.
This unsharpened axe, through Jenna's output, had served its purpose remarkably well.
The other zombies heard the commotion and lunged toward us.
Jenna and I gathered our strength and took out the remaining three zombies.
[Crystal Cores Collected: 4]
A line of text suddenly appeared in my mind.
The space store had unlocked. The goods inside were diverse and searchable at will.
It was similar to online shopping, but delivery was extremely fast.
Here, one crystal core equaled one hundred dollars.
Special items were particularly expensive and had limited stock.
For instance, today there were Power Pills in stock.
One Power Pill could increase physical strength by up to 99%.
Ha, I couldn't even imagine how strong I'd be after using it.
"Rain, what are you standing there grinning about?" Jenna interrupted my fantasy.
I turned and was shocked to find her poking at a zombie's head with her axe.
This scene was unbelievable.
It was her first time killing zombies. I'd thought she'd be scared, but I never expected...
God, I never knew Jenna was this twisted!
I quickly made her stop.
"Jenna, stop poking around. That behavior is really gross and seriously affecting my appetite for tonight."
She didn't budge, looking up at me and blinking. "Didn't you say the crystal cores were useful? I figured I'd dig them out for you."
I did tell her crystal cores were useful, but I didn't tell her to do this!
Then she lowered her head, seeming a bit dejected, putting the axe aside.
"These crystal cores are too hard to find. I searched through all four heads and didn't find a single one."
No, that's totally unnecessary!
"Uh... Jenna, you don't need to look anymore. They auto-collect."
Over the course of the morning, Jenna and I cleared out the wandering zombies on the fifth floor. Including those four, we obtained ten crystal cores total.
The Power Pill in the space could instantly increase physical strength by 99% for fifteen minutes, at a cost of ten crystal cores.
After discussing with Jenna, we ultimately bought that Power Pill.
