Apocalypse Space:Second Chance Chapter 9

4 min 105.4K views

As expected in the apocalypse, what had to come finally came.

That evening, the school gradually lost power and water.

All the lights in our building went out.

The night was eerily silent.

The occasional roars made the campus survivors tremble with fear.

As usual, I took out two self-heating meals and a jug of unopened drinking water from the cabinet.

This was our dinner—also the most coveted item among apocalypse survivors.

But Jenna and I found it bland and boring.

Yes, aside from snacks, we'd eaten self-heating meals for two days straight.

"Rain, do you hear something?" Jenna suddenly stopped and leaned close to whisper in my ear.

"No, you must be hearing things!"

"There really is something. Could it be a cockroach? Oh my God, I'm most afraid of cockroaches." Jenna put down her meal container, grabbing my hand in fright.

I pushed her hand away, somewhat amused. "What? You're not afraid of zombies but you're afraid of this?"

That said, to be safe, we checked the entire dorm again.

We found nothing unusual.

After yesterday's incident, neither Jenna nor I slept well.

We felt something was off but couldn't put our finger on it.

After eating breakfast, we started another round of zombie clearing.

This continued for another two or three days.

Through these days of training, our physical condition had improved considerably.

This round yielded quite a harvest. Including previous crystal cores, we'd obtained 103 total.

Our weapons had suffered varying degrees of damage.

Jenna's axe was completely unusable.

It seemed time to buy some weapons from the space store.

We were walking back to the dorm.

At this time, several dorm rooms cautiously opened their doors.

"Wow, how did they do that?"

"Warriors! Can you teach us some combat skills?"

"Sigh, if only I were that capable, I'd love to go to the convenience store."

Admiring, disappointed, and excited gazes fell on us.

Jenna and I had attracted attention.

"Everyone, do you still have food? I... I haven't eaten in two days. Please have mercy and help me out." A female student walked out of her dorm.

She was beautiful, now with red eyes as if she'd been crying, making people feel sympathetic.

But this was the apocalypse—everyone was barely surviving themselves.

Everyone turned away, no longer looking at her.

Seeing no one paying attention, she turned her attention to us.

"Excuse me, since you can kill so many zombies, you must have plenty of food. Could you spare me some? Please!"

As soon as she finished speaking, everyone looked at Jenna and me with greedy eyes.

I felt especially speechless.

Where did this idiot come from?

If you'd asked me quietly, I might have had a 0.1% chance of giving you something.

But now...

Everyone was looking at us like wolves eyeing sheep. Even if I wanted to give something, I couldn't!

I frowned. "In the apocalypse, everyone knows food is precious."

"Why do we have the courage to kill zombies? We're forced by necessity, because... we don't have much food left either."

"So instead of counting on our food, you might as well count on yourselves. If everyone works together to kill zombies, once we reach the convenience store, there'll be food."

Hearing they'd have to kill zombies, most students chose to back down.

Some went straight back to their rooms, while others began trading supplies.

"Come on, come on, will you trade one bread for one bottle of water?"

"I have half a bottle of water left, but I want ham."

"I don't have anything. I want water. I'm so thirsty. Can some kind soul give me a sip..."

The discussions continued. Jenna and I weren't interested and prepared to return.

Just then, a dorm door was flung open violently, startling everyone.

Immediately after, a large jug of water was thrown out the door.

Everyone was stunned, as were Jenna and I.

"So generous—which dorm is that?" I whispered to Jenna.

"Uh, Rain, I think that's 503."

"What?"

"503—that's our dorm."

Huh???

Everyone wondered who had stockpiled so much.

Jenna and I also wondered who had taken over our dorm.

The next instant, chips, bread, various cookies were all thrown out, scattered all over the floor.

They couldn't believe this was real.

"Rain Mitchell, Jenna Park—students in need should help each other. How could you secretly hide food?"

With that familiar voice, a female student walked out from inside.

When we saw her face clearly, Jenna and I were both dumbfounded.
