CAPTURED BY THE ALIEN Chapter 8: 08

The air shifted as I stepped through the portal with Varek. The sensation was unlike anything I had ever experienced—like walking through a dense fog of energy that pulsed against my skin. For a moment, my vision blurred, and I felt weightless, as if the ground beneath me had vanished.

When the disorientation passed, I found myself in a vast open space that was both beautiful and alien. The sky above shimmered with hues of purple and gold, streaked with ribbons of light that danced like living auroras. The ground beneath my feet was soft, covered in moss that glowed faintly in the dim light. Strange plants with translucent leaves swayed in a breeze I couldn’t feel, and in the distance, towering structures that looked like crystalline spires reached toward the heavens.

“This is… incredible,” I whispered, my voice barely audible over the hum of the landscape.

Varek turned to me, his expression softer now. “Welcome to Veydrak,” he said. “This is my home.”

I felt a pang of awe and unease. This wasn’t just another planet—it was something entirely beyond my comprehension.

“Where are the others?” I asked, looking around.

“They will follow,” Varek replied. “For now, you and I must speak alone.”

His words sent a shiver down my spine. There was a weight to them, a seriousness that made my chest tighten.

“Why alone?” I asked, trying to mask the unease in my voice.

Varek gestured for me to follow him, his movements fluid and purposeful. “Because you are the link,” he said. “And there are things you must understand before the others can.”

We walked in silence, the alien world surrounding us with its ethereal beauty. The further we went, the more I noticed how the plants and structures seemed to respond to Varek’s presence, leaning toward him as if drawn by some unseen force.

After a few minutes, we reached a clearing where a massive tree stood. Its trunk was as wide as a building, its bark shimmering like polished metal. The branches stretched high into the sky, glowing faintly with an inner light.

“This is the Veydra,” Varek said, his voice reverent. “The heart of our world and the source of the connection between us.”

I stared at the tree, its presence both awe-inspiring and overwhelming. “What does it have to do with me?” I asked.

Varek stepped closer to the tree, placing a hand against its glowing bark. “The Veydra is dying,” he said, his voice heavy with sorrow. “Its energy has sustained our world for millennia, but now it fades. If it dies, so does Veydrak.”

My breath caught in my throat. “And you think I can help?”

Varek turned to face me, his gaze intense. “You are not just a link between our worlds, Carmem. You are the key to restoring balance. The Veydra chose you.”

I shook my head, the weight of his words threatening to crush me. “I don’t understand. I’m just a linguist—a human. Why would this… tree choose me?”

“Because you carry the essence of the Veydra within you,” Varek said. “It recognized your potential, your spirit. You are more than you believe yourself to be.”

His words felt like a revelation and a burden all at once. I wanted to deny them, to cling to the idea that this was all some kind of mistake, but deep down, a part of me knew he was right.

“What do I have to do?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

Varek’s expression softened, and for the first time, I saw a hint of vulnerability in his eyes. “You must bond with the Veydra,” he said. “Its energy will flow through you, restoring its strength and creating a bridge between our worlds.”

I stared at him, my mind racing. “And if I refuse?”

Varek’s gaze hardened. “Refusal is not an option,” he said. “Without you, both our worlds will fall.”

The weight of his words settled over me like a heavy cloak. I wanted to protest, to scream that this wasn’t fair, but what choice did I have?

“How do I bond with it?” I asked, my voice trembling.

Varek stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. “You must trust me,” he said. “The process will not be easy, but I will guide you. Together, we can save both our worlds.”

I nodded, my heart pounding. “Okay,” I said. “I’ll do it.”

Varek’s expression softened, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of relief in his eyes.

“Good,” he said. “We begin now.”

He extended his hand toward me, and as I took it, a surge of energy coursed through me. It was unlike anything I had ever felt—warm and powerful, yet calming.

As the energy flowed between us, the Veydra began to glow brighter, its light pulsing in time with my heartbeat. I felt a connection forming, not just with the tree but with Varek as well. It was as if our souls were intertwined, bound by a force greater than either of us could understand.

The process was both exhilarating and terrifying, pushing me to the brink of my limits. But through it all, Varek’s presence anchored me, his strength and determination giving me the courage to continue.

When it was over, I collapsed to my knees, gasping for breath. The Veydra glowed brighter than ever, its energy radiating through the clearing like a beacon.

“You did it,” Varek said, his voice filled with awe.

I looked up at him, my body trembling with exhaustion. “What now?” I asked.

“Now,” Varek said, his gaze distant, “we prepare for the next challenge."
