The Widow's Death Chapter 11
"Detective Russo, we asked around. The milk wasn't bought by his relatives. Frank's neighbors say they often saw him carrying milk home."
"Find it—find the source of this milk!"
Though he wasn't yet clear on the milk's connection to the case, Detective Russo, with his years of investigative experience, trusted his instincts.
"Found it. It was from a raffle at a convenience store opening in town."
Sheriff's station.
"Officer, is running a convenience store illegal? Why'd you bring me here?"
The store owner looked exasperated.
"Robert Davis, how many cartons of milk did Frank Wilson get from your place?"
Robert paused, then quickly caught on.
"You mean Frank? I'll tell you, his reputation was solid. I wasn't even planning promotions for my opening, but someone told me to give away milk, eggs, and beef."
"That stuff's not cheap, but they said they'd provide it. The only requirement was that Frank had to take a lot."
Detective Russo looked energized.
"Who was it?"
Robert shook his head and pulled out his phone.
"It was this person called Mr. Wilson. I chatted with him online."
He scrolled to the top of the chat history.
"I don't remember how this person added me. I thought it was a supplier or something."
Detective Russo carefully studied the chat records and pieced it together.
Frank Wilson had helped this person before, and they tried to directly give him money or supplies, but Frank kept refusing. So they wanted to show some care through this method.
Logically, there was no problem.
But if the killer deliberately left this clue, it certainly wasn't without purpose.
"Detective Russo, the forensics report is back."
"The eggs, beef, and milk obtained from Robert's place all tested fine. The quality was even premium, with very high protein content."
Detective Russo murmured "meat, eggs, milk"—all good things. How could they be from the killer?
Ring ring ring——
Detective Russo's phone rang.
"Detective Russo, I have a lead."
