The Widow's Death Chapter 5
A day and night passed.
Nothing found.
Every phone in town had been checked. No matching numbers.
Detective Russo focused on young people in town and women whose physical characteristics matched the footprint.
Still no results.
"Here's my card. If you get another call, contact me immediately."
I nodded firmly.
Detective Russo didn't leave but took his team back to the scene.
There really were no leads.
Frank Wilson's household income was average. His kids probably took good care of him—there were stacks of milk cartons piled against the wall.
Counting carefully, there had to be seven or eight cases.
The fridge contents were ordinary: eggs, pork, beef.
The medical examiner had said Frank Wilson's actual cause of death was an overdose of sleeping pills, suppressing his respiratory system until he asphyxiated.
The sleeping pills were on the nightstand, with two or three pills left at the bottom of the bottle.
Opening the drawer, there were five or six more boxes inside.
"Sleeping pills are only available at hospitals and require a prescription. Why would he have so many?"
Detective Russo seemed to have found a lead and immediately took his team to the county clinic.
