The Widow's Death Chapter 8
"The rooftop is locked. Only the landlord has the key."
The credit union manager answered seriously.
"Where's the landlord?"
Detective Russo pressed.
"The landlord's not in town. He owns all these properties. He moved to a coastal city a few years ago."
Detective Russo bid the manager farewell and led his team upstairs.
The rooftop door was ajar. The lock had been picked with wire, the cylinder twisted and broken.
Detective Russo pulled out his phone, trying to find the killer's photo angle.
"Canvas the area, pull surveillance footage, circle any suspicious individuals. The killer knows we're looking for them and has started taunting us."
Detective Russo was furious. Could there really be such a thing as the perfect crime?
All the previous suspects had been cleared. Two people were dead, and not a single lead had been found.
"Detective Russo, the surveillance at the credit union entrance can capture the stairwell. Only one person went up."
Detective Russo quickly focused his attention and started watching the footage.
The person in the surveillance...
Was an old man.
The kind with fewer than five teeth total.
"Damn it!"
Detective Russo cursed.
This killer was clearly toying with him.
The case had been going nowhere for days now. Frank Wilson's family was raising hell, and the pressure on them was immense.
The killer was watching them like they were clowns.
