After Refusing to be Luna, I Marked the Alpha's Shadow Chapter 12
"No manners?" The smile on Maria's face froze. Her eyes became sharp.
Chloe didn't notice at all. She flattered, "This kind of wild werewolf has a mother who birthed him but didn't raise him. I'll avoid dealing with such people in the future, so I don't get tainted by their low-class scent."
Maria's face turned completely cold. It was the specific dignity of a Luna. "Since you think he is low-class and unworthy of you, then there's no need to discuss the marriage between the Blackwood and Evans families!"
She shook off Chloe and looked at Liam. "Son! Let's go home!"
Chloe froze. "Son? What son?"
Before she could react, she saw Liam walk to Maria's side, adjusting his cuff to reveal the obsidian ring representing the heir. "Yeah, let's go home. The air here is too foul."
Chloe's brain buzzed, instantly going blank.
"Impossible... how could you be Liam! Are you adopted? Auntie must have adopted a new son, right!"
Liam sneered. He felt he must have been blind to like Chloe, even seeking revenge on Harper for her.
He turned to leave with Maria.
"Wait!" Chloe grabbed Liam's hand, forcing a smile uglier than crying. "Auntie Maria, Liam, I can explain! It was a misunderstanding just now! I was just testing him!"
Liam looked coldly at Chloe's panic. He shook off her hand and got into the car with Maria without looking back.
Leaving Chloe standing stiffly in place, like a ridiculous clown.
George walked out. "What happened? Where's the dowry?"
Chloe's hand dropped weakly. Her face was ashen. "It's over. It's all over..."
Three days later, Blackwood Manor.
Liam stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, looking downstairs at George bringing Chloe to apologize, only to be thrown out of the manor gate by security along with their gifts. His eyes were cold.
Behind him, a few follower wolves looked at each other. One asked carefully, "Liam, did you fight with Chloe? I heard the Council is discussing breaking the engagement?"
Liam pressed his lips tight, saying nothing.
Another said, "Lovers' quarrel. They'll make up in a few days. Liam pretended to be a pushover Omega for over a year for Chloe. How could he really break it off?"
"True. Back then he played Harper like a fiddle. Remember six months ago? She worked jobs to keep Liam company and got cornered by vampire thugs. Liam watched from the dark, perfectly fine. She woke up covered in blood in the hospital, and the first thing she asked was: Is Liam okay?"
"Haha! And there was that time she upset Liam. She stood in the pouring rain outside your fake rental apartment all night. Liam wasn't even home; he was at the manor watching the game with us. She looked like a drowned rat!"
"How can someone be so love-struck? Liam just said 'I don't like gristle in my steak,' and she spent all night picking it out. Next day, Liam fed the steak to a dog right in front of her, and she thought it was because she picked at it too long and the meat wasn't fresh."
Liam listened to each story. His mind was filled with how Harper was when she was with him.
Yes, he was too stupid. Harper's love was so obvious, so pure, without any mixed interests.
But back then, he was focused solely on the vain Chloe. Thinking Harper was fake and Chloe was sincere.
The followers behind him were still chattering. Liam's Alpha aura suddenly exploded. "Have you said enough?"
The group silenced instantly, shivering from the high-rank pressure. Seeing Liam's ugly expression, their faces changed.
A dim-witted one laughed, "Why is Liam so angry? People might think you like that half-breed Harper."
The person next to him turned pale and immediately elbowed him. "Shut up."
Liam said, "I asked you to find out where Harper went. Did you find her?"
They looked at each other. Just then, someone's phone rang. He looked at it and said happily, "Found her! The private investigator says she's at a private training base in Texas!"
"Texas?" Liam looked cold. "What is she doing there?"
"Don't know, but..." The person looked at Liam and whispered, "There's a guy with her."
At these words, the surrounding air seemed to drop a few degrees. Even the window glass vibrated.
Liam laughed in extreme anger. "So fast? A new lover already?"
"Not a new lover." The person hesitated for a moment. "The detective found out it's Harper's childhood friend! And..."
He looked at the photo sent by the detective, swallowed, and didn't dare to speak.
Liam's eyes were cold enough to kill. "Speak!"
The person took a deep breath, his voice getting lower.
"And that man looks... eighty percent like you."
"Especially those golden eyes. Exactly like yours... except for that scar."
