After Refusing to be Luna, I Marked the Alpha's Shadow Chapter 20
My heart went cold. "What did you send?"
Liam's fingertips gently brushed the hair by my ear. "Just a diary from high school. It details exactly how you 'fell in love' with me because of my face."
My breath stopped. That diary clearly recorded my feelings for Liam and everything I did for him. More importantly, some sentences explicitly mentioned a "sense of familiarity."
I gritted my teeth. "You are sick!"
I turned to leave, about to call Ethan, but the Captain called.
"Surveillance saw Jason Gao bringing a group of desperadoes toward you! We sent backup. Take Liam and run. Remember, he's the future Alpha King. He can't die on your watch!"
I paused. The next moment, messy footsteps approached outside.
I looked at the window. Second floor. Then I pulled Liam up.
Liam frowned. "What are you doing?"
I didn't bother explaining, dragging him to jump out the window. Werewolf constitution allowed us to land safely. Then came the sound of the room door being kicked open.
My legs were numb from the shock, but I had no time to rest, dragging Liam to run aside.
Liam pulled his old wounds, lips pale, but he knew this wasn't the time to be petty, running with me.
We just reached the parking lot when we were blocked by several people.
I stepped back, turning to see another group in the dark corner holding silver weapons, blocking my front.
I gritted my teeth. "What's this Jason's background? Daring to attack at a hospital?"
"Don't know. Seems he hired a rogue werewolf mercenary group." Cold sweat soaked Liam's back. Injured, he couldn't use his Alpha strength.
I wanted to slap him, but no time. A group rushed at us. Even as an elite Enforcer, I couldn't handle fighting waves of enemies. My stamina drained.
I gritted my teeth, waving my dagger to repel one. Suddenly Liam shouted from behind.
"Careful!"
I froze, turning to see a spiked wolf-tooth club swinging at me. I instinctively raised my arm to block, but the expected pain didn't come. A hand caught the deadly weapon for me.
That hand was long and powerful. Without shifting, it caught it barehanded.
I looked up and saw Ethan standing behind me.
I was stunned, seeing Ethan lower his eyes to glance at me indifferently.
He was angry.
I froze, not understanding why, but before I could ask...
Ethan kicked the guy in front away. The man flew like a cannonball, hitting the wall and passing out.
Ethan stood in front of me, blocking my view completely.
He held the club he just snatched, weighing it in his hand as if it were a light branch.
Looking up at the group of desperadoes.
Wind ruffled his bangs. His eyes were gloomy, scary cold—the look of a top predator eyeing prey. Standing alone against a group, his aura crushed everyone.
Those people actually cringed, not daring to advance, feeling fear from deep in their bloodlines. Finally, looking at each other, relying on numbers, they rushed up together.
Ethan raised his hand sharply, so fast I barely saw his movement. I only saw his figure weaving through the crowd, easily knocking down several people. Finally, the club broke on someone's body.
He frowned slightly, threw away the broken stick, and backhand punched another guy in the face. The man fell without even screaming.
Continuous wails filled the parking lot.
I had never seen Ethan like this. Violent, tyrannical. With me, Ethan always seemed like a lazy, mischievous big cat.
At this moment, the identity of the legendary "Rogue King" finally felt real to me.
My heart beat fast. Until sirens sounded around us and the group fled in all directions.
I recovered, walking quickly to Ethan, looking him over with worry.
"Are you okay?"
Ethan's bangs were wet with sweat. His hair was very black, eyes dark too, looking at me. The vertical pupils inside were slowly fading.
I stood still. "What's wrong?"
Ethan didn't speak, slowly looking at Liam nearby.
Sirens got louder behind us. Ethan turned, walking step by step to Liam.
Then, he punched Liam hard in the face.
