After Refusing to be Luna, I Marked the Alpha's Shadow Chapter 16
Liam pressed his lips together. Their gazes met in the air, powerful Alpha pheromones clashing inside the shop. Glass cups around us vibrated slightly from the high pressure.
Seeing the situation go south—if they fought, this shop would be destroyed—I dragged Ethan toward the door.
"Ignore him. Let's go."
I dragged Ethan all the way to the street, feeling that gaze like a maggot attached to bone behind me. Looking back, Liam was still standing in the shop, motionless, like an abandoned wraith.
Ethan said darkly, "Like looking at him?"
A hand climbed up my waist, carrying a warmth only I could feel. I shivered, seeing the dangerous smile on Ethan's lips, and immediately shook my head.
"No, not at all!"
Just as I wanted to explain, my phone rang. Another emergency report.
I looked at Ethan guiltily. "Can I explain tonight when I get back?"
A light chuckle sounded in my ear. Ethan lowered his head, sharp canines gently rubbing my earlobe, causing a shiver. "Go. I'll wait for you to explain properly tonight. If I'm not satisfied, I'll bite you."
That night, returning to our shared apartment, I saw Ethan sitting on the sofa looking at a photo album.
The floor lamp spilled orange light, wrapping him in it. His black hair was slightly damp, smelling of cedar and wilderness.
Every contour was sharp and handsome. Even that scar added a wildness.
The boy from four years ago, after years of wandering and battle, had completely transformed into a mature, charming male.
I watched for a while before walking over and sitting next to him.
I was about to ask what he was looking at when I saw a photo of me and Liam from high school.
It was my old album. Four years ago, I liked to take photos of things around me.
I liked it when Liam tricked me. Later, knowing the truth, I was busy training and never opened the album again.
I didn't expect a landmine here.
Ethan looked up, the smile on his lips dangerous and bewitching. "Ex-boyfriend?"
I closed the album. "Do you think that's possible?"
Does he never look in the mirror? Would he never notice Liam looks just like him? Besides, the first dozens of pages were photos of Ethan training in Texas. Is he blind?
"Why is it impossible?" Ethan leaned close to me. The scent of body wash lingered, mixed with his unique hormones, making my heart race.
Ethan placed his hands on either side of me. His breath swept over my neck like a feather, carrying a hint of pressure.
"After all, that 'noble heir' looks so refined."
Heart pounding, I took a deep breath, trying to suppress it. I lowered my voice.
"Ethan, how can you have the nerve to lecture me?"
I pinched both sides of his face, forcing him to look up at me.
"Speaking of catching feelings, you're the one obsessed with your 'lost little wolf,' right?"
Four years ago, he personally said he liked that girl.
Even though we were together now, thinking Ethan had a spot in his heart for another person made me jealous.
Ethan fell silent, his eyes darkening. I squeezed harder. "You really..."
Before I finished, Ethan suddenly leaned down and kissed me.
Gently, grinding, deepening. His lips grew more passionate, his breath hotter, carrying a werewolf's possessiveness.
The kiss was full of passion and desire. Low moans escaped between our lips, igniting my chest like fire.
My breathing became chaotic. My inner wolf cheered, wanting to hook Ethan's neck.
Ethan pulled back at this moment, biting my lip lightly as punishment, his voice low and hoarse.
"You really are a fool."
I took a deep breath. Calming down a bit, I patted Ethan's face.
"Don't think you can gloss over this. You better explain that 'little wolf' thing clearly."
"No." Ethan's breath was hot, fingertips sliding across my cheek. "I'll let you be jealous. I like the smell of jealousy on you."
He was the top hunter, knowing how to manipulate prey's emotions.
My face tickled, and my heart itched. I looked up and kissed Ethan again.
Ethan's breathing instantly became chaotic. His gaze darkened, pupils turning vertical again. He pressed me onto the sofa.
Just as his hot palm was about to reach under my shirt.
*Buzz—* My phone rang.
Hearing the ringtone, my eyes cleared instantly. I pushed Ethan away to answer the call.
It was the Captain. His voice was very low.
"There's been an explosion targeting werewolves in the East District. High-concentration wolfsbane bomb used. Suspected attempted murder. The culprit fled and might return for revenge. Go protect the victim now."
He hung up and sent an address.
Without thinking, I got up to leave. At the door, looking back, I saw Ethan still on the sofa. The flush on his face hadn't faded. His shirt buttons were pulled open by me, revealing a strong chest. His eyes were resentful.
I blushed, ran back, held his face, and pecked his lips a few times. "It's urgent. Leaving now."
"Mmh." Ethan turned his head, planting a hot kiss on my palm, his eyes clearing. "Stay safe. If there's danger, you know how to summon me."
