After Refusing to be Luna, I Marked the Alpha's Shadow Chapter 19
I rushed to the hospital. The Captain had been waiting at the door for a long time.
Seeing me, he pulled me toward Liam's room with a dark face.
"I know it has nothing to do with you, but the Blackwood family is involved. The Council intervened. You have to give them an explanation."
"I know." I guessed Liam would make things difficult, but I didn't expect a direct frame-up.
I took a deep breath and pushed the door open. The room was quiet. Liam sat on the bed, looking out the window.
Moonlight spilled in, illuminating his profile. Structured, deep, like a lonely king.
Hearing the sound, he turned. A hint of unspeakable emotion flashed in his eyes.
"You took your time, Officer Harper. What were you doing when you got the call?"
I closed the door, looking at him coldly. "What exactly do you want?"
Liam acted like he didn't hear, getting up and walking toward me, movements elegant but full of pressure.
"Let me guess. Eating? Sleeping? Heh, surely not sleeping with that substitute?"
My eyes darkened. Liam said, "Was I right?"
He sneered, stopping in front of me. I wanted to step back, but he grabbed my chin hard.
"I was right, of course. I can smell it. You reek of him."
Liam turned my face to the side, gaze landing on my neck where a red mark sat. His lips curled coldly.
"Coming to find me with a hickey? Harper, do you think life is too easy?"
I froze, instinctively covering my neck, but seeing the coldness in Liam's eyes, I realized I was tricked.
Because of my job, Ethan never left marks where my uniform couldn't cover.
I dropped my hand. "Liam, are you sick?"
Liam sneered, letting go and sitting on the chair.
"I told them I wanted you to protect me, but they said you aren't in their division and couldn't come."
Liam said, "So I came up with this. Since you're a suspect, you must accept my 'supervision.'"
I gritted my teeth. "Do you know how much trouble this causes me? This will ruin my career!"
Liam smiled. "I know. But..."
He didn't finish. I looked at him. The next moment, pain shot through my arm.
A strong force pulled me down. I looked up in pain, meeting Liam's eyes full of hate and anger.
"But why do you get to leave happily?"
"Just like four years ago, leaving me here alone?"
"Harper, I want to make your life hard. That's the only way I feel better."
I frowned in pain, feeling more and more that Liam was crazy.
"First, checking if I'm involved is easy. I have an alibi."
"Second, framing an Enforcer is enough to put you in family prison for a few days."
"Third, let go!"
I struggled to break Liam's grip, looking at my red wrist. He used so much force.
My chest heaved. I grabbed Liam's collar, forcing him to look at me.
"Liam, I tolerate you not because I fear you, nor because you're an Alpha, but because you aren't worthy."
"Not worthy of an extra glance. But you better not provoke me! My wolf isn't vegetarian!"
Liam's expression twisted slightly, then he laughed. "Do you talk to Ethan like this?"
My eyes darkened. Liam grabbed my wrist backhanded.
"Hm? Harper, are you like this with Ethan? Or do you turn into a weak little bunny in front of him? Afraid to show your strong side, afraid he won't love you, afraid he'll leave you?"
His smile was reckless and cold. "Acting like what the other person likes, making them fall into your trap step by step. Harper, what's the difference between you and the me from four years ago?"
I looked at him deeply. "Yes, I want to act like what he likes, but I'm not you. My love for him is real. And..."
I raised my hand and slapped Liam heavily across the face.
*Smack—* The crisp sound echoed in the quiet room. I spoke coldly.
"You are not worthy to speak his name."
Liam's face was turned to the side. He reached up, touching his face blankly.
Then, he released my wrist. "You really love him."
Blood oozed from the corner of Liam's mouth. He wiped it, mocking himself. "Even if four years ago, he was the one who tricked you, you would forgive him quickly, right?"
I looked at him. Liam said, "Do you know how I spent these four years?"
"Every day I received photos of you from the detective. Sometimes alone, sometimes with classmates. Until two years ago, they all became photos of you and Ethan. You smiled so happily in every one."
He gently stroked the camellia on his wrist. "Back then I thought, I was in such pain in Europe, why could you be so happy? Why? I just want you to be unhappy, to suffer with me."
"So..." Liam looked up, smiling at me like a demon.
"Guess what? I sent Ethan a package. Guess what it is?"
